That's fair. I like the game but the intro is simultaneously too long and not long enough to get invested. The funeral mission is good though.

Its hard to care about him when the most time we spend with him is the intro and during the Konpeki Plaza heist, the first act should've been about the the different life paths adjusting to the merc life, building up your rep and such and actually build some form of attachment to Jackie that doesn't come from a cutscene

Loved when the game fast-forwarded all the friendship that the MC had with Jackie and why are we friends, really cool

The whole narrative would've made some more sense if Jackie's mind was imprinted on an empty engram, and your bud the Jackster was in your head and basically the big choice you have to make is: you, or him?
Johnny seems like he was a rewrite after CDred secured Keanu Reeves. Ditched Jackie for Johnny, make it a story about a dead anarchist from 50 years ago seeing Night City never changes and he did not change the course of history...Arasaka rebuilt from being fucking NUKED. (*by Morgan Blackhand, Johnny wasn't even the one who actually set up the bomb.)

It's because the retarded, completely incompetent devs make the real intro of the game into some music video cutscene where the player and Jackie are becoming runners in the city. That is literally the game I want to play. The whole Johnny story line sucks ass and railroads you into this imperative narrative where you can't really enjoy the city yourself. On top of that, the devs force the player to be friends with Jackie even if you don't like him for trying to screw you over in the prologue. God this game is truly a mess and deserved all the negative hate it got. And no, the anime did not fix the game.

I like the game, and I think it is neat, but the story/writing is just not good. The story has more plotholes than average road in my eastern european shithole and repeatedly contradicts itself and the setting rules.
This is further exacerbated by the fact that there is actually very little player agency when it comes to roleplaying, with a whole lot of fucking moments that are on rails and cutscenes (I've read somewhere the game is 50%+ made of cutscenes).
Again, good game, but with a weird amount of really stupid dev decisions.

Jackie is especially terrible in Nomad lifepath. He comes off as a huge pussy amateur and when he sees that you unlike him was competent and kept your cool he manipulates you into "friendship"(instead of fucking you over like he originally planned).

I think they really needed to add another mission or two to really flesh him out. Copro is the only one that really adds some weight to him, considering he saves your ass from getting from flatlined by those saka goons, and makes sure you get all fixed up after your tech is cooked.
Nomad is kinda shit
Streetkid is also kinda shit with him, but at least it kinda makes sense from a narrative direction, you're both trying to hit the big leagues together after growing up on the street. A very rags to riches direction, and the game also implies you had some connection to the Valentinos, not a part of their gang like he was, but it's another bit of overlap.

Skipping over the fun things with Jackie, befriending him, doing the odd jobs and meeting his family, that soured me on Cyberpunk from the start.
We should have been able to play through some of that, not rush into getting Johnny.

It reminds of the star wars movies where i have to buy into Anakin and Obi Wan becoming BFFs between movies.
