New Vegas is a funny one.
Back when it came out, my thoughts were roughly "fuck yes, rpg games are finally coming back in style, this game is great, but they can and will surely make even better ones, theres so much to improve on".
Now, 15 years later people make 10 hour essays about why its the best game ever and nothing better will ever come out.
How sad, by rights there should be so many games that are like it but better, instead games went to total shit so a 8/10 is remembered as the peak.

New vegas is such an odd game to me. I remember enjoying it when I played through it but I fucking despise how janky it is.

I just download one of the popular mod collections on nexus through vortex and it usually works with some slight debugging

If I remember right you can get away with 5 or 6 mods at minimum that are just a drag and drop and shouldn't take too long

Devs are too lazy to make games with branching decisions anymore. Only hope is that AI will eventually be good enough to do it instead.
Doesn't help that normalfags/streamers just want linear moviegames where you do everything in a single playthrough so they can move onto the next slop as soon as possible. If they get a bad ending due to something they did or missed 20 hours ago they will whine and seethe that the game was unfair.

Yeah Skyrim and new Vegas and katawa shoujo and dark souls and it really felt like the BEGINNING of gaming
But turns out it was all downhill

I mean it's not just games, is it?
Society felt like it was about to launch upward in the early 2010s but everything just got worse year on year.

I saw a Fallout game for the first time when I watched a friend play 3 and it left a strong impression on me. Then my brother got NV for PS3 and at some point my save file there got too big and I couldn't advance through the game anymore because it kept crashing.
Still I downloaded it on pc a few years later and completed it several times, I'm not sure what it is about it but it just speaks to me (no, I'm not a tranny) and its awful jankiness adds to its charm when it's not game breaking.
Of course on pc I also played 3 a bunch, I like it slightly less merely because I prefer the desert over the city.
How's tales from two wastelands or whatever that mod that fuses the two games is called? That might be a neat idea for my next playthrough

modern mods can reduce those loading screens a lot by combining areas and also they last a second or less with an ssd. shit was held back by ps3/x360 tech.

This is my entire childhood. Seeing the first entry in a series be janky but filled with ambition and potential eagerly awaiting the next leaps in tech to fulfil the potential of those games, only to see the sequel scale back on the more ambitious elements to make a safer more polished game with no jank and be lauded as masterpieces for it, and seeing games mostly just get stagnant and more streamlined with only graphics improving.
