Not very to be honest. you were always performing maintenance on the damn thing as it had easily the highest failure rate of all time among consoles. It's console sales numbers were inflated due to people replacing RRoD ridden consoles.

This gen was a dream until the 360s started dying. Then the Wii arrived and playstation and xbox started chasing that money. It really felt like Halo 3 was the last hoorah of that gen and then it like dragged on for another 6 years. In retrospect it felt like the peak (for console gaming) but it introduced a lot of the trash that started killing games. The weird praise for Bioshock infinite really felt like the canary in the coalmine

The 90s and 2000s were a pretty big investment bubble for consoles that was very poorly managed due to unrealistic and misleading expectations for how growth and profit would develop. AAA isn't just an empty marketing term, it was an expectation of guaranteed safe payouts for fucking videogames of all things.
Around the mid-2000s the disillusionment started setting in and everything started to spiral, leading to the trash that we are still dealing with.

They already knew the PS4 was going to do the same thing as soon as the cattle that bought and paid in droves on 360 set the standard. At the end of it all, people were just happy that the PS4 wasn't trying to be an always online hook up to your cable and stand up to say McDonalds box after that disaster of an E3 presentation with the new Xbox. It was also $100 cheaper. Hilarious is correct though.

It was cool. I only had a couple 360 games and Halo 3 didn't come out yet, but I could still play my Xbox 1 games on there. I had it plugged into my small CRT and my dad sold it to a pawn shop 2 months after he got it for me as he always did with our electronics, but it was fun while it lasted.

Didn't get another console until I bought a PS3 for myself with my first job, 4 years later.

Glad there's a 360 thread here, I had to move my 360 slim onto a bit of a shelf. It is right on the edge of it, but there's wood about 2 inches above the main lateral fan. There's a good six or so inches of clearance to the sides of it (or the top and bottom if it were standing up) Is that enough airflow or will I have to move it again? I would put my series S there but that console gets hotter than hell and it is now on the open shelf where the 360 was.

I still have my launch version. It gives RROD if I were to turn it on now, but the frankenstein metal backplate I installed into it warps the motherboard back into the proper position and it works right after that. For how long, dunno, but I was able to replay the entire GoW series and Halo 3. Before all that I sent it to microsoft like so many others to fix the son of a bitch, and when it returned a month later I noticed all they did was fit a bigger heat sink inside that did jack and shit.

The only other console I bought after that was a cheap broken 1st gen ps3 with the ylod, and I paid some highschool asian kid to fix all the soldering that these models are known for melting off. I did this to play Dark Souls back when we had the comfy git gud threads. It started crapping out on me again when I played NG+.

I built a new gaming PC after that since I was tired of peasant boxes and paying subs for them.

Eventually I just bought a new one because I got tired of being stuck playing retards on xbla Doom that would just quit when they were losing deathmatch since I got sick of messing with the disc drive to play other games and using a towel to even turn it on. That one got RROD because of a power surge when it wasn't even turned on but I sent that one in to get fixed. Still have it but the drive on that one sometimes needs pried open but at least it always reads the fucking discs.

They had a nice team of white men and token minorities behind the game. Hell, they had one asian dude who's only job was to do the water effects in there. The programming code they've put into the game couldn't be mimicked by 343 or anyone else. How many shooters today have a fucking theater/replay mode where you can see the grenade getting sniped mid-air and finding out you died from a rogue flying street cone to the back of the head? Imagine if Hell Divers 2 had a theater mode so you can relive the most entertaining michael bay movie that never existed.

I got a Wii a few months after Pokemon Diamond came out (I remember because I beat the league for the first time while I was waiting for someone to come pick me up), and a PS3 on Black Friday 2009 (after waiting for 3 or 4 hours in line, having to piss the entire time).
PS3 got the most playtime by far but the Wii was useful senior year when I was grounded from the PC but still wanted to watch YouTube and sext with my furry friends. I don't really understand the 360 love.

Sadly never got a western release. Even worse, it can't be emulated on Xenia - the whole thing plays absolutely perfectly until you get into your first battle , then it basically crashes/is unable to continue. If this could be fixed, maybe we can get a fan translation. For those who don't know this is the remake of the PC Engine CD "first JRPG on disc" , Tengai Makyou Ziria. The original got a fan translation eventually, but this version was made by the devs of the original in order to do stuff that wasn't possible back in the PCEngine days, so its too bad it isn't playable and translated .

Some guy owed me some money, and he traded me his 360 to square the deal, and it was the original launch edition, and I got three or four good years out of it before having any problems. Since I got it in a trade I just decided I'd buy a new one without the problem, and I gave the RROD'd xbox to my friend, who did the towel trick, and got another couple years out of it.
I had that xbox up until the Xbone was about to release, and it was acting up a little, and the latest 360 was on clearance so I said fuck it and just bought one while I could.
All the horse shit about the xbone launch soured me and I just stuck with my 360, it has a good catalog and plenty of games.
I got laid off a couple of years ago, and got a fat severance package, and I really wanted to play RDR2 so I bought an xbone, this was late 2019, so covid was just starting to show up, and so I spent a week playing the game and and being hyper aware every time I coughed wondering if I had TB or corona virus.

Sega only developed a couple of exclusives and they were both Kinect games. They did publish a small handful of exclusives they didn't develop though. Like Chromehounds.
XBLA was about getting original digital content when publishers weren't interested in digital releases for their new titles. Once publishers were comfortable with digital releases they didn't really need XBLA anymore so merged everything together for their next system. Microsoft exploited a lot of indie devs during that time and Sony were trying to win them over which is why indie devs flocked to PS4 so quickly.
