Starfield is the only space sim that has all the features gamers want. It had ship building on day one while NMS took 10 fucking years and it's full of bugs

They haven't. The vast majority of players are on console and Game Pass. People are only playing NMS because they want more of what Starfield already does but they've already put hundreds or thousands of hours into it.

Starfield has better on-foot gameplay, it's actually a competent RPG-looter-shooter in all honestly. But No Man's sky has actual spaceflight, exploration, and no brown people so it wins.

Tech demo for their next game. They explicitely stated the Corvett eupdate is all about trying out the system they want to use in it, and as it is the same engine the stuff done for NMS will translate 1:1
