Nah, the controls are stiff, Samus takes an unnecessary amount of knockback when she gets hit, grappling hook is finnicky, quicksand is annoying as fuck and space jump seems to have an inconsistent timing. And don't even get me started on wall jumping. The game is still great and you eventually get used to the gameplay quirks

stock controls on snes controller are fine, but you end up holding your controller in a slightly weird way

Rebind jump to B, shoot to Y, run to A, weapon select to X. Done.

wall jumps are easy
1) be somersaulting
2) be close enough to wall
3) be holding direction away from wall
if you satisfy all 3 of those conditions, samus looks like she's clinging to the wall and you wall jump when you hit jump

Unironically filtered. Neither one of these are true

Mod it to use Dread's controls.

YOU have inconsistent timing. the only discrepancy in how space jump works is that it's more forgiving underwater. otherwise it works the same every time. same goes for wall jump.

That's the theory, chaining one or two wall jumps is easy, chaining 7 or 10 in a row in rythm is a pain in the ass until practice enough for muscle memory to set in.

Oh I won't deny it, nonetheless it's still much tighter and less forgiving than in any other metroid game leading to what feels like it randomly failing.

go to the room that locks you in until you walljump out

I had almost zero issues with the controls once I got out of the Fusion/Zero Mission mindset while playing. There are still things like quicksand and the grapple beam that can suck a fat dick just because of how annoying they are or because I'd rather just wall jump or shinespark to avoid dealing with them, but the core controls are good once you get used to them. You just have to adjust your mindset while playing, it's not as zippy as the 2D games that come after it.

You're right about the first things you mentioned, but the wall jumping is perfect.
The thing that fucks up modern gamers with the wall jump is this
-input lag (the main culprit)
-bad dpads (8bit do etc)

You gotta remap them. The game lets you thankfully.

Prime is the only good Metroid game.
