I have a 5080 now, but I distinctly remember playing Borderlands 2 when I was 16 and still had a 5 year old toaster. The series has always been kind to lower end hardware systems, while looking great from the cartoon aesthetic.

booted up borderlands 2 after failing to get 4 working properly without the use of upscalers. It feels so much better because one, it runs flawlessly and two I can actually aim without the upscaler making it feel worse. Graphically it doesn't even look that much worse due to the stylized graphics

IMO no game needs more than two or three times the compute of Skyrim Anniversary Edition. Doubling the polygons no longer makes games look better. And doubling the size of a texture mesh no longer results in more detail, because the artists don't have twice the detail to add.

Ehhh, i'm mixed on this, not sure if it was a mod doing this or what, but when I was playing Tiny Tina's Wonderlands I really hated that you could basically just instantly respawn any boss seemingly at will, it made the game feel way less immersive and way more like...well a game, I don't think it makes sense for bosses to just instantly come back to life at will for farming, don't think i'd like that either.

UE5 does not have that much scaling because the engine is so intensive at a base. Going from ultra to low on a UE5 game has like, a 10fps difference at most. The only thing that makes a difference ever is resolution and ur DLSS option.

The two images on top are from Forza Horizon 3 a game from 2015, running at 1080p with everything at its highest setting. It runs at over 160fps constantly on my 3070 and never has any sort of stutters, and these graphics do not use ray tracing or any other modern gimped graphical features, just basic real time illumination.
The pic on the bottom is from Borderlands 4, a game from 2025, running at 4k native and with everything at its highest setting, including ray tracing.

I do not regret spending 141$ on this game. I don't know if I would recommend that version of it for anyone that's not already a huge fan that knows they're going to play the fuck out of it, but as that person, I absolutely don't regret pre-ordering. It's a great game and a great borderlands game. It's still got a little jank but nothing some patches and updates can't fix. FoV slider needs to be added literally next week on Tuesday though, and sooner on PC. Need to be able to run 80 minimum if not 90-100. Don't give a shit if they have to drop settings to do it either. Quality preset on XsX/Ps5 Pro also needs to be retuned to hold minimum 45fps because this game is absolute shitslop at 30fps at any resolution on any platform. PC version needs to have settings retuned so people can drop them low enough to get 60fps stable at any resolution without using DLSS/upscaling but I understand launching the game looking its best and then tuning it down later for performance.

I think the metacritic score is just about fair. They gave it an 84 on the critic aggregate, I'd say it's an 86 as it sits now and could easily be an 89-91 with the changes I mentioned being implemented. The only other real jank is cursor stair-stepping with slight inputs on controller even with settings optimized, but that's mostly a niggling complaint.

Most of the negative pc reviews are from people with potatos mad it runs like ass, or people with high-end systems upset they can't get 100+ fps without dlss/upscaling at max settings. The former is just mental retardation, upgrade your shitbox stuff. The latter is a valid complaint and a game shouldn't require dlss/upscaling to hit 100fps, but the borderlands series has always pushed technical limits and I still remember stuffing a second card in my desktop to play bl2 with physx cranked back in the day.

Favorite would be bl2, anyone that says otherwise is retarded. Next favorite after that would be TPS even if it was woke as fuck because Burch was actively losing his mind trooning out. Next favorite after that is BL3, then BL1. I would rate this one as being not quite as good as BL2 but getting closer than any of the other titles, it being a bit weak story wise and a bit janky atm is all that's holding it back from taking top spot. There's a lot less mandatory sitting around waiting for people to talk - there's still a bit, but you can largely just start running to your next objective after pinging echo bot to tell you where to go next. The game will literally draw a line to where you need to go that fades after 15/30/45 seconds depending on the setting you choose.

Other than that my only complaint is the radar needs to be enabled by default in conjunction with the compass.

1. the triangle ships drop in dudes (this crashed the game once)
2. im in an area with more than 5 friendly NPCs
