No because the gaming industry does not want to invest the money and it is also filled with lazy untalented people in studios. Valve only take on projects that they're interested in making and that's why it turned out so good. Because it had real talent behind it. Something you cannot say for 90% of the industry.

The only reason stagnation exists is because all of the real talent left this industry probably in the middle 2000s and there's a few holdouts left, like Valve software.

you can change that meme about the ps4 only having bloodborne with VR only having HLA
Anonymous No.720423893 [Report]
I haven't checked in on VR in a while, but it was something I'd only recommend to enthusiasts. It has a high cost of entry to get a rig and headset, which lowers the potential user base, which means devs and publishers have lower incentive to invest in it. Alyx is proof you *can* make an actual game with a campaign inside VR, but other devs won't look into it if they can't get a return. Valve has Steam money so it can do any vanity project it wants. If the Index cost like half of what it does, maybe we'd see a change.
I do think there's some good titles out there though; Blade & Sorcery is my favorite by a mile. I had hopes for H3VR, but the dev's an asshat who can't design maps and game modes so it'll never meaningfully evolve beyond a toybox.

I mean, the biggest problem is that people want that TRIPLE-AYY graphics experience but you can't do that if you want the majority of people to be able to play it (the game must render to both of your eyes so that's double the performance cost).
Anonymous No.720425116 [Report] >>720428204 >>720439229
>>720423256 (OP)
So it seems. Maybe those rumors about Valve making another headset will materialize, then maybe that hypothetical headset also comes with another game to match. Maybe.

>>720424601
That's actually completely false, it's not that people need AAAAAA gwafix in VR. There is some issue with graphics too, but that's mostly because games are turbotrash meant to run on some Quest literal phone SoC and then get ported with no effort added to PC while looking like complete dogshit. But still, that's not the main problem. The main problem is that VR devs do not seem to care about adding actual content to their shit. They just figure out some VR mechanic, then throw it in some garbage arena mode or "procedurally generated" campaign that's just a sequence of square rooms tied together by hallways. They think all they need to make is some VR gimmick and the rest, as in the actual fucking game, is just some afterthought. That's the problem.

Playing DOOM from 1993 in VR is better than 99% of VR-only games out there because you can play a good WAD and have a great time actually playing a good game with good content despite the 30 year old graphics. This is why the best content in VR just comes from regular game ports and mods, because all the VR devs think making fucking garbage is good enough if you throw 1 polished VR mechanic about fondling guns or some shit in there.

>>720424106
That was never the problem. It's important for something to be good first before it becomes cheap, because something good but expensive can still slowly build an audience as it matures and becomes cheaper, but something cheap and crap is just crap that nobody wants. VR is actually mostly in the latter situation, cheap and crap, with the Zuckerberger Quest headsets enforcing an incredibly low performance cap that results in garbage shovelware and no games with actual ambition, which in turn killed the market because they're not good enough for most people to care.
Anonymous No.720425478 [Report] >>720425550
>>720424032
It's not a scam if clearly a good game was made in it. The lack of other good ones is more representative that no one in the industry could match their capability of developing both games and the required technology to go with it. Sony/SIE/Playstation had not one ounce of talent to go head to head with Valve and hence they gave up on it pretty quickly after their blunder with horizon. It's all largely due to people working in this industry not being able to cope with real innovation.

How's it a scam if a game gets made that that takes full advantage of the technology? it's not like this game was a shooting gallery or tower defence thing, or any galley of mini games. It was a fully realised game with the appropriate budget to bring out all of its qualities.

The only part that's missing is that literally no one employed in the industry knows how to make them. That's it. It's down to lack of people in this job that could figure out how to develop it.

Because it's not a good game.
Tech demos like Boneworks aren't judged on the same metrics as actual video games. Good game design, satisfying gameplay loops, actual innovation in the genre - it all takes a backseat to how much the game showcases its motion controls.

If you want an easy rule of thumb, just ask yourself if the game would still be fun if you couldn't waggle. Because if the waggling is all the game has going for it, then...

All games need to be like Boneworks in regards to simulated weight and physics objects. It should be the model for development of all VR games. It would also remove a lot of the cherry picking criticism people have about VR feeling weightless or those who claim that it's all waggle, because they haven't seen the kind of depth it can have if there is proper systems in place that function accordingly to how people up objects of different weight, which requires different ways in which you move your hands, sometimes more strenuously as you would expect it to be.

>When the Ready or Not VR mod comes out it's going to be cash.
Just hopefully Ready or Not is salvaged as a game by that point, unlikely because it's gone in the direction of no return. They recently self sabotaged for consoles in a massive update, an update that literally reduced the file size in half. And I don't mean that in the sense of game censorship. It's ruined now because the entire thing was downgraded into oblivion to run on consoles. Sound familiar? Void Interactive pulled the same tricks as the Onward developers did by downgrading the best PCVR shooter for quest hardware. Destroyed the whole games community, since Meta bought them out. Their studio is currently non existent because once the developers got that deal they walked away entirely. Common sense should say that Ready or Not is a scam that will abandoned partially but will be kept on life support for their plans on consoles.

If Gordon was the protagonist, it'd have sold a lot more copies. Hell if it had a completely new male protagonist instead of Alyx, it'd have sold more.
This is a Truth Nuke the modern games industry isn't willing to accept, no matter the layoffs and the money they lose.

It would've made little to no difference. VR is a tiny fraction of the market, even if everyone who owned VR bought the game (and most of them did), it still wouldn't have sold well. The whole point of the game was to sell Index.

based, most people feel the same but the loudmouth minority wants to gaslight everyone.

Infact they went out of their way to make Alyx a non-silent protagonist because playtesters thought they were playing as Gordon (and enjoying it)

that's where you're wrong. Even a lot of people who could play on Steam VR didn't buy it. And it also didn't motivate the rest

we should expect at least one new vr game for deckard
and valve has been working on improving steamvr for years, they still love vr

I actually made a metroid prime vr demo with MPR's models just to see how the first area would look
and yes, it would be fantastic
especially with prime 3's motion controls like pulling off shields, using keypads, levels, etc

>all the RE VR versions are PS perma exclusives
this type of bullshit is a big part of why VR is hamstrung, all these FAGGOTS walled garden-ing good VR games away from PCVR

Metro Awakening is the closest you'll get for now, but the environnement is not as interactive as Alyx.

Or have fun modding Skyrim, spending hours installing mods, configuring them to your liking and troubleshoot as you play.

Nintendo hasn't done anything innovative in a decade. Even they started copying open world formulas.

Why is this anon saying the meta quest is low-spec when it beats the Index on several metrics?

He means low-spec as in standalone Quest performance vs high-end pcvr, nothing to do with the Index specifically.

Gunman Contracts looks good. It was Half-Life Alyx mod turned into a proper game now. It has non-VR mode too.
