Not the best example, but Rune Factory 3 has a little weirdness.
>game's combat is fairly simple (though complex compared to other "farming sims", I suppose)
>a few combos, some skills, whatever
>main character's just some generic anime dude
>like most anime, he has a super mode, thanks to being half-monster
>he can switch to his monster form after about an hour or two into the game (depending on difficulty)
>fast, strong, grab enemies and piledrive them with your bare hands, MUDAMUDAMUDAMUDA them to death, combo them against the wall long after they're dead
>absolutely beat the SHIT out of everything in sight
>your monster form isn't some big demon or a buff werewolf or something
>you're a sheep (a Wooly, technically)
>you and your soft wool and your cute little acorn hat, beating the everloving FUCK out of demons, animals, big bosses, etc.
Too bad even the remake kept in all the jank in the game though, minus some bugfixes.
Figured they'd at least do some QoL shit like make inventory management NOT be a pain in the ass, but nah.
Still probably my favorite RF game, with 4 as my close second though.
Another iffy choice is Hi-Fi Rush just because of all the rhythm stuff. I mean fuck, they made parrying into a mid-combat rhythm minigame based on memorization AND timing that practically softlocked a ton of players who thought they could just get away with fighting normally the whole game.
Just the fact that a pure "cuhraaaaazy" game like this has you testing your audio latency is weird enough.
