We've been hearing rumours of either PC gaming or console gaming or regular gaming dying in general for over a decade know. It's totally getting replaced by mobile and cloud gaming in two weeks.
In reality it's as you say, gaming industry has been growing even if we remove mobile gaming from the equation. There'll always be a market for consoles because not everyone wants to dabble with a PC. PC itself has become somewhat complementary to consoles, many people see it as a machine that plays similar games, just better if you're willing to invest the money and a bit of time.
Gaming has solidified itself as another medium for entertainment next to books and movies, it's not going away. The confusion comes from classifying mobile gaming time wasters the same as proper gaming content. It's like calling YouTube or TikTok movies because they also happen to be videos.
