I have had a virtual boy emulator on switch for years and it has 3D side by side so you can slip in a cardboard 3D headset. And honestly it genuinely does look amazing. So this is pretty cool and it's a good addition if you ask me.

The emulator also allows you to change the red pallette to a grey scale one which looks way better and easier on the eyes too.

There's no way Nintendo will have that option with this official shit.

What was the point in adding this? Literally all the games they showed off were the only game the thing had.
Unless Nintendo shell out the money for any real games we want, but Waterworld is sure would be worth it to them

Parallax is a rendered phenomena that happens in the final 2D image in motion, has fuck all to do with the physical hardware rendering that image. See: Literally any 2D platformer ever in the 90's and their multiple layers of parallax scrolling.
The point of the single strip of LEDs and the vibrating mirrors were it was lower cost than a equivalent display of that size and had the brightness/contrast necessary to make it practical to put one in front of each eye, plus the optics work out without dedicated lenses given the distances between the LEDs and your eye balls.
Which at that, there were a number of Virtual Boy games that had stereoscopic parallax because it's a easy as shit effect to do. Teleroboxer being the first example with its overhead lights as a immediate example.

Now cheaping out with the LEDs and only having red (Red LEDs are the cheapest kind), that was A grade retarded on their part, even dichromatic displays would have been SOMETHING over fucking RED.

Also, it was supposed to have a headstrap and have some sort of early IMU for 3DoF ""VR"", but because of a scare at the time for health & safety with video games in the mid 90's, that had to be nixed at the 9th hour and all the retardation with the wiry stand shoved onto it.
