No, since the PS4/XBone gen. X360 would let you install the game on the HDD to speed things up, but it was optional. Games were required to be able to run from the disc.
The only exception were huge non-linear games like GTA5 which had an install disc and a play disc.

I am going to do everything in my power to secure as many switch 2 sales for remake as possible.
That includes, but is not limited to:
>crushing remake negativity on sight
>praising remake with every rebuttal
>repeating that I've personally played it handheld and saying it looked great
>talking about how perfect remake is for the switch
>alluding to the possibility that the switch version has extra content
>assurances that rebirth WILL run perfectly on switch 2 and will be out soon
>assurances that part 3 WILL come to switch 2 so buyers don't have to worry about not getting the full trilogy
>downplaying any concerns about game cards replacing true physical copies
Needless to say, any concerns expressed about how it runs or its pricing will be SWIFTLY dealt with.
Oh, and a big, big helping of "greatest action combat of all time" posting. Who would want to miss out on THAT?

Square is desperate to recoup their losses on this turkey. Rebirth was a flop and now they're testing the waters to see if they can get some of their money back by porting these games to Switch 2, but I'm not exactly convinced. They made some terrible decisions with these games that alienated fans of the original and the younger generation doesn't understand what all the fuss is about, because the new story relies on the player having meta knowledge of the original.
