Not sure how to feel about this. It's un-Metroid like and the open areas don't look promising
Music was nice at least, and we got a release date...

The same issue I had starting with Other M and Dread is culminating here
They're trying to turn Samus into some kind of badass who does flips and ninja moves and is "le cool guy who's doesn't look at explosions"
That's not what made Samus cool. She was cool because she was a lady in a robot suit who kicked ass. They're trying too hard now

Just doesnt feel like metroid to me. This is a character by the who one of her most infamous abilities, is literally just running super fast in one single direction. Obviously that seems less cool when your drop her in the middle of a fuck all open world instead of a twisting winding series of corriders and shafts where horizontal super speed and vertical super leaps are meaningful.

The ship is for flying around in space. They want you to explore this planet clearly. I don't know how anybody can think there shouldn't be vehicles in this franchise or that Samus driving them would be stupid as if she never would have any reason to ever do so. Yes she can super fast in the suit but it never made me think she would never ride other vehicles just because of that. It's just the ship again but you get a small transition area instead of some jpegs. They even showed that the motorcycle is this game's loading elevator.

I don't get why people are having trouble understanding that this isn't an open world game.

I can see this playing out one of two ways

Its just how you traverse between areas and there are no classic elevators. This is basically the same weakness prime 3 suffered from where it makes planning your route less important because you could get to any region entrance/exit and go to any other region entrance, instead of needing to plan accordingly about X elevator taking you to phendrana west or torvus south.

The bike is used as a type of alternative travel option. Some areas are reached through the bike but traditional region connecting elevators/trams/portals still exist.

The intro of this game has her fail to save multiple feds and fuck up while fighting Sylux, similar to Prime 2's intro. She's always been cool and she's still imperfect here. If anything they're toning her back down after she was too good in Prime 3.

I think it's going to depend on how central the open world area is. So far, it looks like a way to make the world feel more expansive, but most of the gameplay will take place in more traditional Metroid areas, which might be alright. Only issue is if/how they'll be able to implement the interconnected world of a typical Metroid if each "level" is disconnected by the open world.

The game will be fine. There will be underground labyrinths and bosses and scanning. The wide areas can serve as a way of giving scale and atmosphere to these sections. I don't think it's so stupid to have these as a breather after exploring the main areas of the game, which will be probably also connected somehow. Pre BotW Zelda made it work and it only got retired because it got boring in that franchise. But i wouldn't mind that scheme in Metroid.

I have faith in Retro. They've always been a disaster management-wise but somehow nintendo has always forced them into doing decent games. Not a single bad game by them.

So what's the issue here? They obviously wanted to introduce traversal. So this sets it apart from the first three games. We've got the same gameplay that was established from the first three games. Something else that I noticed is that in all gameplay we have seen so far is that it seems like literally all creatures in the game are hostile. None of them are there to just exist. Even in prime 1, you had geemers, zoomers, the flies, etc. which you could just walk past. Real creatures in the world that exist regardless of you- you are not the purpose.
But it looks like in this game everything in the room will just run at you and try to kill you whenever you walk in- reducing them to nothing more than enemies in a video game, making the world less real and less alive.

Youre right it's going to be a hyrule fields style hubworld but that's also not a good thing in a metroid prime game either. That's just Prime 3 with extra steps and the planet hopping shit was a big part of what made 3 the weakest entry to begin with. It was still good, but it would've been better with 1 and 2's design.
