You can't breed monsters but you can created ubermonsters, it just uses a completely different system from bredding: gene manipulation. The monsters come with genes that give it peeks, abilties and bonuses, you can take one of those genes from a monster and put them into another (but the donor monster is lost forever), so you have to find rare monsters with good genes and pimp up your main monster with them.

Rite of Channeling needs perfect gene placement to match your planned slots. Ritual Items exist, but they’re mid. Real monstie sacrifices are better, becausee they usually have stronger variants. Finding a high-rarity monstie and giving it a flawless gene grid takes ~20-30 hours if you know exactly what you’re doing and where to farm. And that’s not even counting the grind to level 99.

I really hope they realized it. I spent hundreds of hours in the original just experimenting with type-changing alonee lol. It was easily one of the best parts of the first game. I’ve already put 100+ hours into the remaster too, and I’m still holding out hope they’ll bring that flexibility back. If they do, I genuinely think MHST3 could be the best in the series.

Your weapons and armor change and you can even palette swap the armor to your liking (predetermined colors thoughbeit). Every time you fight a new monster you unlock its associated weapons and armor for crafting.
They're a little simple, but they're fun. 1 is worth playing as I think it executes its premise better than 2 even if 2 is the more fine tuned game. Now's a really great time to pick them up btw, they're in a bundle on Fanatical and you can get both games for $15.

Stories games give you a different perspective on how people see the hunter's guild and hunters in general, surprisingly, they are not well liked by the most part and see hunters as brutes.

If you pair it with the quests descriptions you get in the mainline series, you can easily tell that they are right, hunters kill for sport and for the fuck of it rather than to save people, a town or whatever.

You can go into MHST3 blind. It doesn’t seem connected to the first two at all. MHST1 and 2 share the same world, but the links are thin. Honestly, some returning characters feel out of place due to the tone shift, and Capcom kinda forgot their own lore and characters (one word: Redan).
That said, both games are worth playing if you’re into monster-taming. MHST2 has better QoL, co-op, and a bunch of other stuff, but I personally prefer the first game. Most people would disagree, and that’s fair. It really depends on what you value. If you’ve got the time, play both. If not, jumping into 3 is totally fine.

MHS1 is so much better paced than MHS2, and I prefer the dialogue style. It's really rare to find a game that does text boxes with 3D models but has them shift from one static pose to another without idle breathing animations.
