That's why they're there. Most people will just ignore tools throughout most of the boss fights. They designed this boss SPECIFICALLY with a move that sucks you up which you can toss a bomb into (classic trope) and blow him up for big damage. If you pull out all of your cogflies and toss bombs at him, he will go down in like a minute and a half

There are fights where they very clearly designed them without thinking about tools, most of them are solo duels between equally sized opponents. In these cases the fights are often too fast to use tools effectively and it's more efficient to just attack directly. Then there are fights where tool use is encouraged, such as bosses at the end of gauntlets, like bognigger was. Get smart, dumbass

I do not find Lost Lace fun. Her 2nd and 3rd phases feel egregious.

It's not a good system, but the logic behind it is for world consistency. In HK, all the spells were SOUL, which was recharged by hitting enemies. But Hornet's tools are physical items that require her to craft or create them. While it would be better mechanically for them to be infinite, it wouldn't make sense from an immersion standpoint. "Where the hell is she getting all of these tools?" You could ask. The shards provide justification and the abundance of them is the compromise

A lot of people are trolling you. Go to the white ward entrance bench and clear the two rooms to the left of it repeatedly. Summon 4 cogflies to speed it up considerably. Their hp resets on room transition, so you can use the same 4 for the entire farming session. This is much faster than the upper hallway.

If I had to guess neutral jump and maybe a double jump then read her animation and dodge to a side or float. Muscle memory was just too strong for me to neutral jump and she will read which side you jump and answer with an aerial counter half the time, making you bump into her. If you try to jump and dash behind her too fast to punish her, she'll input read you and change the direction of her ground-counter.

I left this fight in order to have a look around and see if I can get stronger. Well now I'm one mask stronger, found another silk heart, and improved the damage of my tools. Still, it takes forever to get to the boss room, forever to kill the basic enemies, just to make the boss spawn, and then he kills me in 20 seconds, because 1 mistake snowballs into 2 and 3 more accidents. And with double damage, I get annihilated.

I can't think of anything else to do in the world, except for that other boss fight that's preceded by enemy phases up in the high halls. The old warrior helps me, but I still just don't want to do the fight. I guess I should do it, because I think it's required to unlock whatever zones I'm still missing.

IDK, I just want to progress at this point. But I don't want to fight any of the fights. The game is kind of annoying me.

Yep.
It's not as hard as you think, most enemies can be easily avoided and the time limit is not as bad as you thin it is. It's more important to not get hit or to bonk into things, so just focus on dodging and check your route when you need to. Going up the Shellwood shaft to the bellbeast stop is quicker than going the long way btw.

I've reached 100%, I think the game is good and certainly will leave a lasting mark for future metroidvanias, but contact damage is fucking retarded and spoiled some of the best fights. Bosses doing damage while STAGGERED is even worse.
I'm not against the runbacks, but problem is that they went full fucking autistic and made every single boss in the game have a runback, except a handful of endgame ones.

I dont mind the concept for it but there is no way to know it man you REALLY have to empty the map beyond all reason. And some of the map areas are really hidden to the point where a solo player might never find them because they didnt spot the breakable wall in the middle of nowhere with no hint on the map

If you're having trouble with the lake section or clawlining off enemies in general, wait a bit after clawlining to press a and go into parachute mode, you'll stifle the height you get from clawlining them if you press it too early, and it makes the lake section an absolute bitch, I also cannot recommend the weavelight charm enough, it's almost a necessity here so you reliably have access to clawline with only 1 silk heart

i dunno, it feels like they signpost "THERE IS AN AREA HERE" pretty well. sands of karak is hinted by the little upward path by last judge that you can't unlock, if you go up through bilewater and beat groal you're put into a small bit of putrified ducts so you know there's SOMETHING there, etc.
i'd say the real issue is the flea hunter NPC being so hidden, you don't get told about her in-game until you've already moved the fleas to fleatopia at which point you've already got the conditions for the true ending quest. she should be available way earlier.
