It's a different time. Bad products flopped back when the VB was first released. Today, balding millennials will buy ANYTHING Nintendo puts out and Nintendo has slowly been escalating how little effort they need to make to get their money for years now.

Nintendo wasn't a cult then.
But it's a cult now.
If things like Pokemon can still sell, they can sell literally anything to the cult.

There are a couple of interesting games for it and it’s a funny piece of history. If they dumped the whole library on NSO and the actual headset was a 20$ optional accessory for the weirdos who want it that would be pretty understandable.
A lot less so when it feels like you’re being price gouged for a joke with you as the punchline.

>>720496375
It doesn't come with anything. You have to subscribe to their online service to play the games, and they're going to release the games "over time" instead of all at once, even though there's only 14 total.

Yeah, and also Virtual Boy is only available on the more expensive "Expansion" subscription.

How many games will they even bother releasing for this thing? Will people pay 150 bucks for a stupid toy with 3-4 games? With the only games anyone may want to go near being wario and jack bros (watch it not be present).
Anonymous No.720498816 [Report] >>720499636
>>720498603
That’s just fucked up.
For what you are paying the roms should all be loaded on the headset. Make it a standalone piece of hardware like the NES and SNES classic. Locking the games behind a sub fee is jewish as fuck.
Anonymous No.720498949 [Report]
>>720498603
All this cost, and effort, and every single Virtual Boy game is absolute shit that nobody will want to play for more than 5 minutes (not because of eye problems, just because it's boring).

Quite the opposite, their retro peripherals like the NSO controllers have been very successful and the Virtual Boy is seen like this weird and even exotic console, it will sell out.
>>720491829
Now this is when they didn't think at all, 3DS was the perfect console for VB ports, luckily there's a 3DS VB emulator that can even play the games with 3D.

You can't buy the VB accessory in the first place if you don't have an NSO subscription, not even the cardboard version. They're exclusive to the My Nintendo Store. This is supposed to be a niche thing for enthusiasts like the other NSO controllers, it's not a mass market product.

It was just incompetence. The Chinese people at iQue they had developing the 3DS's virtual console(source: leaked source code) just weren't up to task. I mean, look at the accuracy of the gb/nes emulators they made.

yeah theyre not making classic consoles anymore that was a trend that lasted two seconds after remembering they can rent you ROMs
Anonymous No.720500145 [Report]
>>720499510
Yeah, and that's what makes it feel so scummy. They're dressing this up like it's some love letter to enthusiasts, but it's just gatekeeping wrapped in nostalgia bait. If it was really for fans, they’d make it a fun standalone novelty like the Game & Watch stuff, not this dripfed, paywalled mess behind a sub-only storefront. At least back in the day when you bought a dumb peripheral, you got to keep your buyer’s remorse.

They're going to sell $10 worth of materials, $10 worth of manufacturing and $10 worth of shipping costs for $100 and are guaranteed to sell out to people who will likely use it once and put it on a shelf.

It's free money If they keep the greed reasonable and they don't outproduce what dumb scalpers are willing to buy in bulk and resell later on ebay.

The virtual boy failed because the games at the time didn't offer anything more than the snes at the time and the peripheral was costly, also released near the PS1 launch.
