How does something like Prime 4 happen exactly?
I'm disappointed already. Not mad, but disappointed.
On some level, I have noticed it's probably extremely difficult to actually market the real appeal of Metroid games.
At their best they make you feel like you're lost in space, exploring an alien planet. At least that's what they do for me anyway.
"This game induces an interesting lonely feeling" is hardly something flashy you can put into a trailer.

So this motorcycle honestly comes off as a decision mostly meant to have something cool in trailers. It doesn't look like it adds much to the game in ways I would find meaningful (seriously why is this not a suit upgrade).
But how do the people making these games get to this point, where they're trying to take something unique, something that stands out from the rest of the market in an interesting way, and ... instead of trying to sell people on what makes it unique ... begin to homogenize it and make it more like everything else?

How can the industry figure out how to resist this trend towards homogenization and development by herd mentality?

All the talent in game dev is gone dude. Unless you seriously haven't noticed that nothing in the last 10+ years is even remotely as good as stuff 15+ years ago was

You should be glad hou even got a prime 4 after that shithow that was the dev progress.

I've noticed, and it's probably well past time we started seriously talking about it.
Obviously talking about all the most easy talking points doesn't get anything done (yes I am aware of the main reasons why the talent is draining).
So how do we turn this ship around anyway.

Indies have been making metroidvanias as one of the biggest genres for 10+ years at this point. Literally just a Nintendo problem. Metroid doesn't fit Nintendo's brand. It's like Disney trying to market a serious action film. They always struggle.

Which dumbfuck executive thought I played video games to feel lonely?

>retards cry about the lack of speed booster (non-issue) in the prime games
>they add a better equivalent

Honestly no indie "metroidvanias" do it for me.
Not sure why.
But I do definitely agree modern Nintendo struggles with the series.
Disliked everything released after Prime 3 (although I actually liked some things about Other M even if on most levels it was a failure)

Your first mistake was thinking Prime and Metroid are the same series, they're not. One is a spin off and the other is the mainline sidescrollers. Of course they're not going to play teh same. They aren't the same game. They don't follow the same rules.

Fuck anyone who said the 2D games should be more like the "Prime" games and be different, change up. This is why I'm glad it doesn't and just expands upon what's there. Federation Force was a clear warning on the direction the Prime series was going.

I never asked for Prime 4
