and the fact you go through a hole in a wall you can't even see that grants you access to a whole area above citadel and below connecting to bilewater where you get the item that starts everything....

Give me one reason why ghost, a void being, would go out of his way to save hornet if he doesn't know her. Why would it flash void given focus if he isn't the shade lord yet? He only becomes void given focus only after going through his adventure in hollow knight and gaining emotions.
