Unironically next year when there's still no new 3D Mario or Zelda. Nintendo will win by default because XBox is a publisher at this point and Playstation is operating on okay-but-not-strong profitability. Switch had a massive boost with Nintendo repackaging 3DS/Wii U library to new customers and pent up consumer demand during COVID. They're not going to die out this generation or anytime soon, but Switch 2 is going to struggle a lot more especially if the economy remains sluggish and tariffs keep prices high.

Nigga, ACNH sold almost 50 million copies. Maybe only 10 million of those are from “actual” animal crossing fans. I don’t imagine the next one will sell nearly as much but it will still sell a lot. Even if 50% of the entire hardcore animal crossing fanbase swears to never buy another game again, it still will probably sell 15-20 million easily.
Autistic fans of specific Nintendo niches greatly overestimate their importance. You see this with Smash bros, you see it with Pokémon. Neither of those franchise have been good according to the standards of the “real” fans for at least 15 years but they’re still selling at a high level.
