Artoon/Arzest, Good-Feel... They don't understand Yoshi's Island or why it was good in the first place. It was made by Miyamoto when he got tired of all the crappy Yoshi spin-offs of the 90s. Ironic, because Yoshi did a full 180° swing right back to garbage soon after. You are correct in that it was all the 3D Mario team's doing.
