I doubt it'll have that, but I could see the game getting pretty difficult if you have to "document" every possible enemy interaction. Like, I could totally see some shit where you have to escort an enemy across the entire game like the half life 2 gnome just for one specific niche thing.

Sometimes Nintendo makes good games on accident, like with Majora's Mask and SSBM. Yoshi's Island might be one of those cases. It's hard to tell if they intended for all the crazy shit you can do with the egg throwing mechanics or if that was just a happy accident.

If you played the beta of YI from the 2020 gigaleak you'd know it wasnt a fluke. Early systems for throwing eggs were rough and janky. They refined it to the final version you see today. That sort of thing takes trial and error.

In that case it's probably because YI was made by the main Mario team, and they went on to make the 3D Marios and handed off the Yoshi series to other staff. The modern equivalent would be if a new Yoshi game was made by the Bananza/Odyssey team.

Artoon/Arzest, Good-Feel... They don't understand Yoshi's Island or why it was good in the first place. It was made by Miyamoto when he got tired of all the crappy Yoshi spin-offs of the 90s. Ironic, because Yoshi did a full 180° swing right back to garbage soon after. You are correct in that it was all the 3D Mario team's doing.

That's why I wish for a Bananza moment like >>720526623 says. But until Tezuka retires or these low effort games stop being a return on investment, that'll never happen. Yoshi deserves better.

Looking at it solely as a product, positioning Yoshi as their sidescroller for babies does make sense, unfortunately. It seems like the Mario team thought 2D Mario was played out so they poured all their creativity into Yoshi instead. Bananza feels like them doing the same with 3D Mario in a way. I wonder how close Yoshi was to being picked for their next game before they went with DK.

I liked Woolly World and Crafted World. They're easy, but they're charming and creative games for rainy afternoons or whatever. They aren't as good as Yoshi's Island, but they're worthy games if you're self-motivated and curious.

I know several adults that can't make it out of world 1. The level right after the first fort that's an autoscroller makes a lot of people quit. And if you get further on into the game the ice world can be really frustrating with the penguins.

They were all directors. It was good for the same reasons Mario 64 was good. Some of the level designers for YI became level designers for Mario 64. It was part of the Mario team's progression because it was a mainline Mario game.

Let me put it this way: I can imagine a 35 year old that never played Yoshi's Island playing it for the first time this year and, assuming they like 2D platformers, that game becoming one of their favorite games no qualifications needed.

I can't really imagine a similar scenario for WW or CW. YI is just engaging in a different way. Like I said though, I like WW and CW a lot and think they're some of the most slept on games Nintendo has made.
