As a boomer who played Gens 1, 2, 3, skipped 4, then picked up 5 on a whim because of my college buddies all being into it, Gen 5 was a far better game that actually made a real effort to fix all the bullshit that made Gen 2 fucking miserable. Let's start with the fact that B/W includes a slew of new mons and you encounter ONLY THE NEW MONS INTRODUCED IN GEN 5 up until the post game. This alone is an objective improvement from Gen 2 which had WHOOPS MOSTLY KANTO SHITMONS everywhere in the new region and made finding the cool new mons advertised everywhere a pain to find, many of them gated by the shitty postgame.
Gen 5 made such an active effort to be good and showcase all of the cool, new shit instead of trying to hide it that it's no fucking wonder everything that followed sucked so much fucking ass. BW and B2W2 were the last time GameFreak actually gave a fuck and put forth an effort, and proved that they CAN make good games if they try. They just don't fucking try anymore.
