That's the plot of the game. I'm talking about their dialogue. Their writing. We don't judge the writing of VTMB2 on Safia turning out to be an Elder or whatever who is pretending to be a nerdy scientist. That's the plot of the game. We judge the writing of the characters on their depth, their flavour, their general writing quality. I'm sure there's some huge, mindblowing twist with Fabien, but we judge the writing and performance of the character as he's presented to us (which is very good).
VTMB1 has colourful characters, and memorable performances, but the writing is very one-note. Every character talks like they were born in the 1980s, not like they're vampires who are many decades/centuries old. VTMB1's writing is very cartoonish. It's not bad, it's just... it's sorta like how a lot of people love Dragon Age Origins, but the writing is very 'teenager's first fantasy game".
