Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. Just all of it. I know it's BEYOND a dead horse at this point but I have never seen a successful IP shotgun itself in the face quite like that anywhere else.
>hideous new art style
>taking a series associated with platforming and making it about cars and building them; not as a spinoff, but as the direct follow-up to the first two (with the open narration even to that effect)
>also do this balls-deep in development of what it originally was; a remake; so that early marketing material has ALREADY promised another platforming adventure AND most of the soundtrack is now just remasters of the original game's OST
It's actually even fucking crazier than the usual story because none of this was Microsoft's plan. This was the game Rare wanted to make and they thought people would applaud it for being "subversive" like Rian Johnson with The Last Jedi -- and much like with TLJ, that never happened.
If Rare deliberately crashed the IP because they were sick of Banjo-Kazooie and didn't want to do games about them anymore, it was a genius move.
