Gifted the OG LCD Steam deck 2 years ago. The fucking thing is amazing during long haul plane flights, on vacation, or anytime you're spending an extended time away from home.

All other times the damn thing sits rotting away in my closet because i use my primary PC rig 100% of the at home.

Steam deck is a very specific use case device and not a daily driver for vast majority of the pc population and god fucking help you if you try to mod games.

The only time that is remotely fun is the garbage truck. Just about every boss fight or throw enemy section left me absolutely baffled and forced to look it up. I think Ephemera's fight was where I got stuck the longest. "Obtuse" is the best word I saw to describe 2's gameplay.
And a lot of it is just downright glitched. Like how many fucking times it takes to throw guys into that big thing's stomach.

I finished it once just out of morbid curiosity because each segment just got worse and worse. It's a shame because it has moments were it's actually pretty cool but you're just constantly getting stuck on confusing puzzles and awful boss fights.
When it's just you vs a group of thugs it's pretty fun. So just replay the club level and endlessly fight enemies while you enjoy the dance music.

I kind of ended up thinking the opposite, I was looking into getting a Deck but the fact that I already have a PC ended up discouraging me from it. Like it's just another device to play the same library of games, it just screams of something that's gonna end up collecting dust after 3 months. I already have access to a full emulation suite set up on my phone, including less demanding Windows PC games and Steam Link streaming, and I never end up using it for anything other than Balatro and Slay the Spire

That form factor is best to 1080p max while having an expectation for emulation and maybe medium settings on most games at best, not modern AAA gaming. I want 1080p which is why I'm waiting for the second revision since even the Switch 2 has opted for it just because it's a nice area to stay at for that screen size. Higher refresh rates are all well and good, but that's for future revisions since even current machines are a coin flip if they can hit 60 let alone 120 FPS, and then there's the fact that these features cause massive power drain to do so.

No handheld has a 4k display. 1080 or 1200p is a great fit for a screen that size. The only handheld where the screen was kind of overkill was the Legion Go 1 @1600p, but even then they probably went with that resolution so it supported linear integer scaling for games that had been optimized to run on the Deck at 800p. Plus, there is a class of game that you're gonna be able to run natively at that res. I don't own a Legion Go but I'd bet Silksong looks pretty good running at 144Hz 1600p

That's more to do with the display out of the device, and if you plan to dock it on a modern TV it is pretty important that it's able to output at the panel's native resolution even if the software isn't running at that resolution.

Again, there's a bit of a distinction between the battery and performance impact rendering the game at that resolution and having a screen at that resolution. There isn't a measurable performance and battery life hit merely from the pixels being there. If you're using an inexpensive upscaler, theoretically you should be able to have your cake and eat it too. The devices you mentioned have pior battery life because the chip is power hungry, if you were to mod them to replace their display with a Steam Deck display you wouldn't gain much in terms of longevity
