it's primitive, spammy and repetitive, has contact damage and other shallow outdated action mechanics from the nes era.

and E33 is parry slop without the interesting action stuff to go with it. Attacking is boring unengaging QTEs and you become OP way too easily and start killing shit before you can even learn its moves.

But beyond being the same genre it's not much like the past game at all.
Hollow Knight was not much of a platforming game, outside of like one section of the entire game. It had the makings of being a fun platforming game but it never leaned into it outside of that one section.
Silksong meanwhile is a platforming game through and through and leans into it hard throughout practically the entire game. Both in and outside of combat.
Hornet's movement in Silksong is nothing like the Knight's movement in Hollow Knight. It's like night and day. It's not just about it being an "improvement", or "worse" if that's your opinion for whatever the reason. It's fundamentally different from the first game. The amount of aerial control is nothing like the first game and the speed is on a whole other level.

You might as well claim that Megaman Zero and Classic Megaman is just "the previous game but better". They're pretty fucking different.

It's honestly impressive how Discord trannies are still seething about E33 this long after release.

E33 isn’t that difficult in general. It’s also ridiculously easy to break any difficulty with lumina combos. Even Simon you can just one shot with Maelle. I made the mistake of going to that mountain area on my first playthrough, got my ass handed to me for a while since it was high level area, but by the time I was done I was so over-leveled I steamrolled the final act.

The trick with these “hard games” in general is you just give shitters a way to trivialize the challenge. Like Elden rings mimic tear and bleed builds. They feel good because they didn’t have to resort to turning the difficulty down and are just “using the mechanics the devs gave us”
