What is your preferred race to play as in elder scrolls games, /v/? I usually like playing as the native of where ever the game is set in.

I like imperials the most because they are the most plain boring humans in the setting so it makes the fact that each game's protagonist is a turbo mary sue more easy to swallow.

Only ever played Skyrim, but I chose bosmer for my archer, altmer for my mage, and nord for my warrior

I don't care if it's the basic bitch choice because they get the best passives: I always go Breton because a tanky mage is my preferred playstyle and ideal aesthetic.

morrowind: breton is mandatory to speedrun the boots of blinding speed, saviours hide for 100% magic res
oblivion: breton > altmer > khajiit, everything else sucks
skyrim: altmer > breton > orc, everything else sucks
skyrim with enai's perk overhaul / race mods: altmer > breton > imperial > orc > bosmer > dunmer > khajiit > nord > argonian

Argonian. I like to fantasise their sneak pose and spastic animations and how they sprint, like on the water irl. Lore and origins is a bonus

I don't care about Skyrim 2 when that comes out in a decade but I still enjoy Morrowind. Morrowind probably has the best modding scene out of any Bethesda game these days. TES3MP is fun with the boys. Oblivion has enough Morrowind in it to get me to revisit it every once in a while. Never got that into Skyrim. I've only played it like 3 times. The removal of classes, attributes and the culling of many skills ironically makes the game feel too limiting.

I ran every race in those games but I usually default to Imperial.
I feel like the games other than Oblivion flow better if you play as something other than the native race.
Morrowind is the most in your face about it but even if you play as a Nord in Skyrim it makes it clear that you are not a Nord from Skyrim.
Trying to play otherwise just makes me feels like I was some afro-american thinking I know anything about Africa because my great-great-great-grandfather was sold from there.

Any of the races of Mer depending on what I'm going for. Always alien enough to be appropriate to the setting, racial stats are geared towards being a specialist which I like better than being a jack of all trades. Altmer for pure mage, Bosmer for sneaking around, Dunmer work just as well for either a spell sword or sword and shield. They also work for a bit of a challenge by playing antithetical to the races bonuses like doing an altmer with a greatsword. But really the big one for me is the "stranger in a strange land" feeling. Dunmer have the best time at that for me and my own RP. We know the most about them compared to the other Mer and they're certainly going to be strangers anywhere they go outside of their homeland.

As someone starved for more Morrowind shit, I have to admit that Redguard did the job for me. I was pleasantly surprised how true it felt to Morrowind's vision of the series. It brought a lot of the same unabashed quirkiness, such as the Sload character, or the geezer High Elf rocking a Dwemer wheelchair. Sure it's a janky, narrative-focused adventure game, but the plot is so congruent with Morrowind's lore that it could have come out afterwards and nothing about the story would need to be changed. Just goes to show that they nailed the setting down even back then.

For me it is unga bunga orcs with big magical weapons and armor.

My favorite race lore-wise are Bretons, but I've only ever played them in Tamriel Rebuilt and Skyrim. I went with a Redguard in Arena, Nord in Daggerfall, outlander Dunmer in Morrowind, Khajiit in Oblivion and Imperial in ESO. Probably gonna go with either Altmer or Argonian in TES6.

I played Morrowind as a Khajiit for the stealth bonuses (which accidentally fit because Khajiit are Azura's second race), then Oblivion as a Dunmer because they're native to last game's province, then Skyrim as an Imperial because they're native to last game's province. If ES6 ever comes out in my lifetime, I'm playing a Nord to follow the trend.

I like most of them for different reasons. I'd say Bretons are the most boring. If you're going for a magic playthrough, Altmer and Dunmer are more flavorful. If you're going for more of a silver-tongued bard, an Imperial makes more sense.

Also Bosmer, Argonians, and Khajiit are all cool but they tend to all merge into the same sneakthief playthrough.

Nords, Redguard, and Orcs are all warrior classes but manage to feel distinct in their own ways. Redguard are swashbuckling swordmasters, Nords are stocky brutes, Orcs are tribal berserkers.
