Progression is extremely slow, and it feels like the game treats the player as if they have a two digit IQ and nothing better to do. If you want sport analogy, imagine playing basketball but you're not allowed to run, dunk, or even shoot unless you're in a specific area. Then, as the game goes on, you unlock the ability to run in the later quarters, and only then can you eventually dunk. Instead of just letting you play the game from the start, it deliberately holds you back just to stretch out the playtime
