My PC started to overheat and shut itself off when playing videogames. Is it cooked or can it be fixed?

Two potential solutions
-Nvidia updates fuck it up, roll it back
-Clean your dusty-ass pc
Now fuck off

Modern computers shut themselves off if they start to overheat so it's likely undamaged.
You should solve the problem so it doesn't happen again.

This is the sort of thing you can type into grok and get a reasonable answer for, you don't need to go on v the vidya and tithe an anime girl these days.

Run ThrottleStop and set a positive PROCHOT offset. It will cause the CPU to throttle earlier, which should stop it from reaching the shutdown limit.

Note that the shutdown limit can't be changed. So you cannot use this method to accidentally melt your CPU. But setting a negative number will still cause massive instability, so don't.

install intel extreme tunning utility and undervolt it -120 its overheating to 100 degrees and it has the failsafe to shut off before it burns all your CPU

I didn't clean my desktop for like 2 years, is that too much? And I didn't change the thermal paste for 5 years. Maybe that's the cause.

Adding to this anon's comment, some premade PCs ship with CPUs that do not support voltage tuning, so don't be surprised.
Allegedly it's to prevent retards from burning the CPU then claiming warranty.

My first PC was constantly giving me overheating alarms and shutting down. In the end, a driver update fixed it (the thermometer was reporting much higher than the real temperature). If this started happening suddenly, try rolling back your latest driver updates. If it was a gradual thing, clean your dusty computer, fatass.

clean your pc, if it still overheats apply new thermal paste to your cpu.

I don't get any of it...
What's a positive prochot offset mean? And what does throttle mean? I don't get it.

Not him but the fan may get clogged with dust and it won't disipate heat fast enough, if the cpu overheats it shuts down to prevent damage

Throttling is when the CPU reduces its performance in order to avoid exceeding some limits.
PROCHOT is the value at which so-called "thermal throttling" occurs. When the CPU temperature exceeds the PROCHOT limit, the performance is reduced in order to not overheat.
The PROCHOT offset changes the PROCHOT limit from its default. It causes thermal throttling to occur at lower temperatures.

Clean it you retarded zoomer
do not use canned air or whatever is it called, buy something like a CompuCleaner Xpert
Then buy a bottle of isopropyl alcohol to clean the thermal paste off your cpu, don't be retarded and look how to unstick your cooler if it doesn't come off
You should have a tube of paste somewhere unless you're using the stock cooler
Remember to touch something metallic before doing anything in your pc and hold fans in place when spraying air in your pc
Next time go to /g/

change thermal paste on your cpu or your radiator is fucked

Running a CPU is like gooning. Temperature is how much the CPU is feeling it. Your problem is that the CPU is edging too close and accidentally cums as it hits the shutdown limit. Setting the PROCHOT offset is like telling the it to not edge as close.
