No all players have the same stats.
The only thing we will need to worry about in the future is new characters being OP and locked behind a paywall.
Just be wary, once you reach a certain point the game stops giving you 30-60 souls for characters per match and starts giving you 0-6 so it's impossible to get all the characters without paying realistically.

I haven't played Unite in years, how did it become p2w? When I last played you could unlock any mon with in-game currency. You just wouldn't be able to unlock every single character

It will be eventually but for the moment you can get all but 1 character through grind (Cell, Hit and 18's character set only have 2 unlocks and they are more expensive than the other characters.)

It started as P2W, just throw your creditcard at your screen, buy all the powerups and be stronger than everyone else who has to grind for months to get anywhere as strong.
