What tech would /v/ rather have in a game? Water physics or Raytracing?

Watertracing or ray physics? Which way white man?

Water physics, but good. I don't want a raytracing tier knockoff that tanks performance, and I want it to have meaningful interactivity with the environment

it being a good game in the first place.

Some nobody game studio that made nothing but snooker games somehow managed to come up with this back in 2010, surely someone can make something more impressive in 2025. I'm not saying that Hydrophobia is a god tier game or anything because it's definitely not but come the fuck on.

It'd be so satisfying to do this with ethanol. The PC would have the bath of its life. But it'd waste so much ethanol.

Why not distilled water?
2bh, neither that or ethanol baths would be good for it. You shouldn't overdo the ethanol.

Both? Water physics is a CPU workload. Raytracing is a GPU workload. They largely don’t conflict.

I wouldn't be surprised if a game like this wasn't possible on modern day game engines. We're so ass backwards that physics-based anything besides lighting is lost technology.

>You shouldn't overdo the ethanol.
It depends. If you get some valuable electronics wet and have good ethanol on hand than a bath gets rid of water thus reducing risk of corrosion so it's a great thing to do.
>>720644007
It also gets gunked up but it evaporates away relatively quick (taking some dirt with it if you're lucky) so less risk of a missed drop under some capacitor than with now-dirty water.

Water physics is absolutely critical if it affects gameplay.
Like stealth games.
Raytracing is unrealistic light, so it's irrelevant to gameplay.
Anonymous No.720646974 [Report]
>>720640036 (OP)
Any sort of cool real time interactive physics would be better than how raytracing is used right now.

>>720643556
>Water physics is a CPU workload.
If you're mimicking a wave effect like in the OP, Sea of Thieves, Batman Arkham Knight, you're more than likely using a shader effect on the GPU to simulate and displace the vertices on the mesh. And if you're straight up simulating an actual fluid, I think it's still preferred to use GPUs like this guy. https://youtu.be/_8Ed8ET9gBU
