the first game is honestly kind of ass. 2-4 though are all definitely S tier.

5 LR is by far the best game of the series, gameplay is at its peak, massive character roster, lots of stages, game modes. The problem with it is the costume DLC many of which are impossible to get now, and the PC version has no lobbies which kills the game. But the gameplay itself is the best in the series. Dead or Alive perfected 3D fighting gameplay and avoided all the issues of modern Tekken (especially the boring repetitive combos that are just memorizing the same shit while the opponent floats in the air).
2,3 and 4 are all fantastic games but playing 5LR makes it hard to see them as anything but lesser.

Also curious why 5 is so low. I didn't play Last Round but when it came out I was still having fighting game nights with friends and DoA5 was always considered amongst the most fun of them.
I think we also juggled MK9, Street Fighter 5, Tekken 6, Soul Calibur 5 and one of those Naruto arena fighters.
Like anon said, it had a great variety of fighers, enough for anyone to see a character/playstyle they like and enjoy.

I have a question about 6. I tried playing it for like 30 minutes out of curiosity, and did they seriously remove combos as a game mechanic completely? There are launching moves that give you a guaranteed follow up but why did they remove critical stuns and breaks? The game is also significantly uglier than 5 and has less than half the content so I have no intention of playing it more, but I feel like I am missing something about combos in this game.

It's hard to say. Gacha makes them more money than any fighting game. But gacha also means no growth, just a constant inevitable decline as they try to keep whales engaged but will eventually lose them. The 3D fighting game space has never been more wide open, there are literally no good 3D fighting games released this decade. Sega noticed and found it a perfect time to bring back Virtua Fighter, Tecmo must also notice, but it depends on if they think it's worth the investment.

Yeah, seems like there'd be an opportunity there, but maybe it's just not as popular a genre anymore. Already nearing 6 years since DOA6 came out, would think that a decent break of 8~ years should be plenty to give the franchise an attempt at rivival.

How different is DOA Xtreme 2 from the OG Xbox game? Did it have new songs? I think i saw somewhere they reused the soundtrack from the first game which although iconic, i did not appreciate. Trying to track it down locally.

That's an incomplete list, a lot of different versions like DoA++ or all the different DoA2 versions (like about 5) are missing.
Arguably there should be DoA3.0 vs. 3.2 versions too.
Found a bit better list but it's still missing a bunch of versions but whatever.
