In GTA5 when you swap characters you'll be engaged in whatever they were doing as you switched. When you switch to Trevor there's a chance he's at his trailer jackin it and after you swap to him he finishes and wipes his hand on the wall. My dad watched as exactly that happened on screen and I tried to tell a joke to make it less awkward but he never said anything, he just got up and left.

He loved them. When we got the Playstation back in the 90s we couldn't believe how realistic Virtual Pool looked and how cool the physics were. He played a lot of NES, but he never touched the PS. He later got into gaming again with the PopCap games on PC.
I never chose my games when I was a kid, he would just come home with a new game randomly (megaman 4, metroid, mario 3, castlevania 3... all bangers)

That game is completely incomprehensible from a spectator's point of view even IF you know the game. It's been ages though. I bet my dad would love something like red dead or ghosts of tsushima if the difficulty is on easy. Neither of them can into 3d games.

As a kid I didn't have money of my own so videogames would be bought by my parents anyway. And the television was in an open space so time spent gaming was relegated to when it wasn't already occupied
It wasn't until I got into PC gaming as an early teen that things really took a more distant turn. Especially with having unfettered access to the internet. Once I had my own computer it was full on isolation, I didn't need to tell anyone what weird shit I was getting myself into.

He finds them interesting but also confusing if the games are a bit intense like a FPS game with a lot of stuff happening at once. If it's like a normal little platformer, story game, or something slower paced, he finds them pretty chill but not too interested in playing them. And I guess my parents are always amazed at how far games have come along and realistic they look these days.

Now he's too old to even hold a controller, but whenever I do play a game he asks me to play it in the living room so he can watch from the couch and enjoy it through me. Genuinely the only reason I even still bother with video games anymore. I'm gonna miss him, bros.

General mixed feelings about every thing, but in the end i think it was towards disgust.
There were times i wasn't sure if he just wanted to bond with me, genuinely liked some things, or was just trying to fit in.
At one point he said he hated playing games, but liked to see me play.
At one point he made a "make your own adventure game" on excel when practicing with commands that if you clicked in a cell it would put you in another cell, but it was very bare bones with practically nothing on it.
He would try to play Medal of Honor on my PSP but couldn't ever pass the first level because he didn't had any thumb coordination, so essentially he was moving like if he was using tank controls because he couldn't move and shoot at the same time.
He used to say that he played Wolfenstein, the OG one on a floppy disk when he was younger, but when he saw me playing House of the Dead when i was a 7-8 year old toddler he took the CD out of the tray and broke it so we couldn't play it.
During a trip when i was a kid, i was playing some Lego Star Wars game for the NDS, and he snapped to me tell me to please turn off the music because he was going insane listening to it for hours.
He would try to buy me cabellas and fishing games that were ass, but i realise later he wanted for me to get out and actually try those things IRL and encouraging/manipulating me to do em, especially since he liked hunting and fishing.
Then he divorced my mom after she found out he was cheating on her, and according to almost every other on on my family he because a fulltime joyless asshole. Cut all communication with me, told my cousin that games are a waste of time, generally pissed off everyone, started to do lots of sketchy shit with some chinese for money, etc.
Even when my grandad, his father, died he was the only dick that not only didn't cried, but his main concern was the inheritance. He was even smiling too.
Anons, i know this is wrong, but sometimes i really wanted to punch my dad.

He didn't understand the concept of online games. He still doesn't. Whenever he sees me playing one, he asks "are you playing with real people?"
He was in his 20's when he and my uncle played NES games, so he's still stuck in the mentality that video games are frustrating and make you angry. I don't blame him. NES games were hair-pullingly hard, man.
