It was magical, because there was a community of people who wanted to fart around in it and have a good time and also wanted to engage with the others. It was the people you met on your journey that made each adventure with each character just a little bit different each time.

Really bad. It took them years to get it okay and then the BC ruined everything.
But the thing, you see, is that what make a MMO good or bad is nothing more or less than the people playing it, and the players of early WOW were mature and friendly.
I wasn't there because I was too young. But I can tell you about the relaunch in 2019. Shit was crazt busy. Hours of waiting in queue for some servers.

first asymmetric PVP game. we would make excursions into enemy territory looking for people to fight or gank and they would do the same to us
WoW was never good. It was just a place to hang out and do shit with fellow nerds before the internet got invaded by normalfags and the third world.
If your friends weren't complete addicts you would have moved on to better games decades ago.

There was no PVP instance on early WOW. We had to do it the wild way, outside. Thousands of players would conglomerate to the same place and the entire server would freeze and often crash.
Just like EVE.

I fondly remember spending my birthday questing in Searing Gorge, after being filtered by the final boss in Uldaman with a guy who I befriended when he sought people to enchant their gear for free to level up his enchanting skill.
3 years ago I was a guest at his wedding.
