>And yet, despite being JPN-only, games like Terry's Wonderland were still extensively discussed overseas,
It, uh, wasn't. I don't know where you made up this idea that it even was, it took the game like five or six years to get translated to boot despite being entirely simple Japanese, shit a kid could read.
>including observations of the censorship,
Actually, outside Japan, people only started talking about the censorship last year.

We do actually, considering DQX was advertised as releasing in English back around 2011 and then never materialized, coincidentally around the exact same time that SE decided to just stop releasing games entirely, including ones they had promised to release in English years prior.
Here's a rundown of the games that never left Japan if you care
>DQM: Most Wanted (Mobile) - 2010
>Rocket Slime 3 (3DS) - 2011
>Dragon Quest X (Wii/PC) - 2012
>DQM: Terry's Wonderland 3D (3DS) - 2012
>Dragon Quest VII (3DS) - 2013 (DELAYED to 2016)
>DQM: Super Light (Mobile) - 2014
>DQM2 (3DS) - 2014
>Dragon Quest VIII (3DS) - 2015 (DELAYED to 2017)
>DQM: Joker 3 (3DS) - 2016
>Dragon Quest XI (3DS) - 2017
Another thing to note is that DQXI had a significantly delayed western release despite VIII and IX releasing day and date with their Japanese counterparts.
There was a very clear idea that SE just did not want to release DQ games outside Japan anymore, likely after the complete bombs that were the 4-6 remakes (and the DQM Joker subseries) outside Japan and the only success story being DQIX, a game that is completely alien to the majority of DQ.
