DLSS is fine. We've been using dynamic res and upscaling forever. And DLSS somewhat solves the issue of TAA being utter dogshit. It extends the life of midrange cards and can be used in certain scenarios (4K+, DLDSR, etc) to look even better than native with TAA.

The real problem is when games expect you to use it as a baseline to achieve 60 fps. This is a huge problem for 1080p gamers and handheld gamers as no matter the setting it's going to look shit there.

The other problem is framegen. It has glaring, obvious downsides that DLSS (or FSR) doesn't have. It's not free performance, has DLSS' "low input = bad output" problem cranked to 10. You can't make 30-to-framegen-60 FPS look or feel good. It shouldn't be considered at all when laying out how a game runs.

It makes devs extra lazy. Give devs any excuse to not optimize their games and they'll jump at the chance, just offload all of it to fake frames. If games already ran well and it was just gravy on top it would be great, but as it is and it being a requirement now just to even approach decent frames it's absolute cancer. I don't hate the tech at all, just the effect it has on the industry

I hate DLSS because it basically allowed all devs to be utter lazy pieces of shit that dont optimize anything. It was neat when it came out, but it should have died for the greater good.

At face value it's great tech, it allows slower card to effectively output at higher resolution than they could and it extends the life of older cards. In practice DLSS/FSR became the baseline so now even if you have a $,3000 RTX 5090 you have to turn on DLSS. Coincidentally that leaves the slower cards like the 60 series in the gutter forcing their owners to run 360p internal resolution upscaled to 1080p.

I don't know, if someone doesn't care that much or doesn't want to invest in PC gaming a 60 or 70 series card seems reasonable and in fact the 970, 1060 and 2060S were pretty good GPUs.

Reading comprehension. The damage dlss did to visuals is far greater than the damage the introduction of TAA did. But, yeah, native TAA vs 1080p ultra performance dlss with 4xfg (which is what nvidia is pushing as a requirement) would be a brutal mogging with TAA winning.

It is a compromise between people that make hardware and software, not something you as customer need or should desire.
The lies of old GPUs running new games with it or 1080p/1440p cards running in 4K thanks to it were never true, so there is no good reason for you to accept this.

With the new update that lets you inject new DLSS4 versions straight from the driver DLSS quality/DLAA is just straight up better than the native image quality these days. It's free anti aliasing + performance essentially, frame gen sucks if you're getting less than 120 FPS but otherwise it can also be good.

DLSS is bad for gaming cause instead of being used for good such as achieving 4K 120fps by rendering at 1080p 60fps and then upscaling+framegen, it's being used in place of optimization to allow unoptimized games that barely reach 30-40 fps at 720p to then reach 1080p 60fps with upscaling+framegen
