Code Box only really spoils some mild stuff from both Vol2 and Vol3 that you would have figured out by virtue of Seia having a banner with Rio right behind her.
You don't need to know the details to have gotten a grasp on things, though it would have helped to have had the context in advance.
When I blazed through the retired events they do still let you do the conquest stages for summer franchise plan so I imagine the retire of code box will at least keep the plot-relevant unique content.
It's the extra content that I'm confused as to why it's being discarded. As well the story missions normally let you use the story units, but once retired you're forced to bring your own units which makes the sequence of transitioning from story to fight feel stapled on when it originally wasn't.
