the main appeal of it was the 2d sprites and how easy it was to mod characters in
they shouldve just focused on that

i disagree with almost all of that. modding will be fine. it wont be as easy to mod characters in but i believe in quality over quantity anyways. also the 2d sprites did look better but thats only because they hired amateurs to do the 3d models for rivals 2. the first game was better, though.

grabs are too good / every neutral option that isnt grab is shit because holding down beats everything else

It's so obviously trying to be Melee, but it ends up being Ultimate with wavedashes instead, and no one likes Ultimate. I ended up not liking anyone on the launch roster (Clairen isn't really Marth) and I was looking forward to Absa, but I haven't even bothered reinstalling it to find out if Absa is the magical character that will make me enjoy the game.

Oddly enough, Rivals of Aether 1 looks way more fun (and way more like it matches kinda "feel like Melee") than Rivals 2 does, but I'm not going to immerse myself in the world of Discord tranny fighters - and boy lemme tell you, I sure found out that LITERALLY EVERYONE who plays tournament level Rivals is a tranny. Being a tranny isn't normal no matter which way you slice it off, but something is especially fucked up about the 90% tranny rate of the Rivals community. There needs to be a case study on how and why that happened.

/v/ isn't the only place where people talk about games. RoA 1 wasn't given much attention here either, even after the workshop update. As long as the hardcore base remains, the game will be fine.

I'm gonna keep it 100, I love Smash but the furry art style completely turns me off of Rivals to the point I didn't even try it out in the free weekend

fpbp, too many smash baby mechanics added that ruined the rivals formula and what made it different. special grabs and special get-ups from ledge are cool additions however. just wish the rest of the game didn't feel off compared to the first, not talking visuals, but something about the controls don't feel right at all currently and probably will never be fixed..
