An impressively quick disgust response. I wasn't far into the game at all apparently.

Not really. Besides, MGS has had a bit of a resurgence on this board cause of Delta. Got me itching to play one of the games, so I thought I would try one that I dropped a long time ago. I was going into it hoping I would enjoy myself.

My theory for that game period is that a lot of people who never played videa before picked it up and got wazooed by the games that came out at the time, despite all the games being lesser versions of earlier actual master pieces
Like how people think hollow knight is a sotn level goat hit when it's closer to Metroid fusion

youve just got to learn to like the gameplay and variety of stealth levels. Its not going to be overly cinematic or codec calls interrupting you every 3 seconds. Its just a well feeling game.

I can 100% believe that, but that doesn’t exactly make it feel any better either. In spite of being pretty awful at MGS1 and 2 (I slightly improved by 3), I didn’t mind continuing, but it’s not really the same here.

Don't worry; as soon as you get past the terrible introduction, you can... visit dusty towns that are miles apart and take a very long time to get to even in vehicles! When you get to the dusty town, you can balloon everything in sight, then repeat that about 3,000 times!

I don't know how I had more patience for this game when I was younger than I do now. I'm guessing it's partially a consequence of having shit tastes back then (not anymore of course), and the other part being the fact that I lost my game save after the first chapter and didn't want to do all that again. I play non-lethal, undetected stealth, so I was pretty mad at the thought of having to do everything again. I finished chapter 1 again, but it's been years since I continued my playthrough.

It's probably because MGS 5 is a one-trick-pony, at least for a few hours. The game, after the introduction, is pretty fun: a huge world and you can go wherever you want, fulton almost everything in sight, and the gameplay is pretty tight. THEN, after about the 5 hour mark, the repetitiveness kicks in really hard.

No, I was actually enjoying it during my first playthrough and was invested in the story since it was my introduction to the series. I'd spend a considerable amount of time doing each mission as perfect as possible without killing or alerting anyone. I was mainly pissed off over having to do everything all over again.

You know that saying "when your only tool is a hammer, everything starts looking like a nail" MGSV is an inversion of that, where everything is a nail and you have a toolbelt of a thousand different hammers varying in utility and strength, but also you have a regular fucking hammer so you kind of have to force yourself to use all the other hammers.

While konami holds the rights most of the major people behind the series have moved on after MGSV and not just following kojima over to his independent studio.

I just don't get the point of the story. It's a pointless entry in the saga. The only thing of worth it adds is explain why there are multiple Bosses and I guess it shows Boss was dick to people who loved him. That's kind of it. As it's own story, it's really only good for the final twist which isn't that good. "It was all a dream" is not that smart. It's kind of cool but makes the story a bunch of nothing

I'm currently doing a chronological marathon. After delta, I played PW, and yesterday finished GZ. Today will be playing TPP. Any tips?? GZ looked and felt way more difficult than those two combined. Guards see you from a mile away, and they stay unconscious less time. (I play those games on normal, btw)

the problem with MGSV is that it is a MGS game. badass mercenaries destabilizing third world shitholes is a badass idea for a videogame but it's bound by the retardation of the franchise

Just finished Delta. Still think gameplay-wise, V is better.
On that note, will there ever be a Peace Walker remake? Would be cool if they started remaking these games in chronological order—that’d make the most sense.

a peace walker remake would be the best next step, but i reckon an MGS1 one is coming next, then MGS2, then either PO or PW - most likely PW

I can get myself through the entire Afghanistan part and afterwards I just remember the missions being mostly dull until it gets back to Afghanistan again. Not interested in FoB and at some point you start treating it like some TV series that you get really engaged in because of the cutscenes but you remember that it's an unfinished mess with no conclusion and you leave it at that to not feel the "phantom pain" again.

That was going to be the DLC, set on a separate small island to appease GZ fans. Story was going to be a little sidestep but would have had an open end with little impact on the main open ending. Tons of translated interviews about it.
Which we never got sure, but the main game was finished as stated in the same interviews. Google them.

it’s the most “streamlined” mgs game meaning you do actually need try to be stealthy, just reflect mode your way out of alerts, develop overpowered shit like stealth camo, incredibly stupid guards even by mgs standards. Mass audiences like it because it’s so easy.

People got tricked back then. First playthrough is magical because of the promise of "any time now it'll get like the old metal gear games and I'll be fighting bosses left and right" but it never happens; you just keep replaying missions on a harder difficulty until you unlock the ending
Hard to believe how fucking empty and devoid of any meaning both maps are. Not a single thing to explore and find; not easter eggs or hidden encounters/bosses. You have the skulls, at the very least they could've made us have random encounters with them while exploring. Incredible disappointment

I’m glad you enjoyed it. All I did was try a side mission, and get annoyed that my Suppressor would break quickly and that I found it hard to see the enemies, since it was night. I think one issue is that in other games, you’d get weapons slowly and they’d be given out at appropriate times. But the way this game is structured, I feel like there’s no “reason” why I couldn’t just get a sniper tranq now, other than the fact the game just doesn’t want to give it to me.
