Not to mention that people generally dies at 70 or 80, sometimes younger, so there's no time for anyone to consoom every single thing in this world.
Hoarding things up would be pointless because once you die you dont get to keep everything that you hoard in your life; sharing them so that people can also consoom your stuff should be the point of hoarding and preserving a media

yes, I hoard. I know that eventually I'm going to have to abandon the net. Something fucky is going on with it and I don't really want to be part of it. So I'm collecting like mad right now. Both physical and digital. All different forms of media. For me it's not about possession, I just want to have more options than I could possibly go through in a lifetime when I finally cancel my ISP subscription.

I've honestly been getting strong hoarding urges for that very reason. Realistically I think I shouldn't bother since it's not like I'm going to live THAT long and I also don't think of myself as building an ark for the benefit of future generations, but there's still that voice in the back of my head telling me to download ALL the shows and ALL the movies and ALL the games and ALL the books and ALL the comics

I tend to delete vidya due to size but keep things I like and know I will go back to. Recently started to hoard what I can but other forms of media take precedence for now because vidya piracy is already operating in the dark and will likely be the last thing to get axed. For the most part it's a race to save AI resources, stable diffusion models, loras, LLM models. I wish I started sooner, like years earlier, the powers that be really hate the fact that the unwashed masses are still having the circuses.

>whats your build like?
I have a mItx generic N100 mobo, a cheap 80+ bronze sfx power supply, more ram than the dinky CPU on my motherboard can likely properly use, a fully 3D printed case (excluding fasteners), noctua fans, and 2 8tb Toshiba nas drives + low power draw OS NVME. Using Openmedia vault for my OS, works alright.
>do you run it 24/7?
For the past few months, yea.
>should energy/power requirements be factored into it?
Definitely should be considered, given modern energy prices. Many low-power friendly options out there, but you have to be careful- for example the N100 supports crazy low idle power use in theory, but nearly every Chinese board does something to make that feature not work properly.
Only advice I have is get something that supports a large enough pcie slot to allow you to use some sort of HBA card so you can use cheaper SAS drives.

Bro, they sell solar powered battery backups for home server & industrial server usage. It would be less than like $1200 for a small setup that would keep you running 24/7, probably much cheaper if you're just running a Nas.

Digital hoarders are not preparing for a nuclear apocalypse, they aren't building servers in bunkers with the intent to archive everything. The idea is to have a NAS set up filled with media that might become inaccessible in the future for ne reason or another. The internet won't suddenly disappear either but it will be censored and controlled, the content you will have access to will be curated. Will it be as bad as some anons think? It's hard to say, but better be prepared. Don't come crying when that one edgy vidya or anime gets wiped out off the internet because it contains "harmful content".

Also, storage of them is a lot more complicated despite what some would have you believe. Do NOT invest in tapes if you can't keep humidity properly controlled (i.e. you're a eurocuck with laws against A/C)

i've got about 150gbs of roms, and 2tb of anime/manga downloaded on my HDD (the roms are backed up on an extertnal SSD too).
i only download keep stuff i like, and it solved my "collection" autism surprisingly, because i used to spend a lot of time and money on physical games and anime blurays, just to "have them" or whatever. i still buy manga though...

i dont get the people who hoard 100s of random games you'll never play. they only serve to make it harder to sort through, even with a frontend, even if you can download complete libraries of older systems for only a few hundred MBs

>hoardtism
I installed truenas on my old gaming pc, got a few drives in there, it took me a bit to get it but there are some good videos to teach you.

if you hoard on single drives you will lose everything when the drive dies, always have redundancy. if a drive dies you replace it and it repairs the nas, you lose nothing. don't be a clueless hoarder. also smaller drives are cheaper, I don't even want to know how much a 32tb drive would cost. you can't buy a handful of them so forget it. get 6 identical drives you can afford and start there.

bonus points if you seed torrents sometimes

Yeah it does. It automatically downloads all the tags when you download the images straight from the booru. You can separately add your own list of tags as well. There is also the The Public Tag Repository that automatically sync with your images though I dont personally use it. I use an AI Auto tagger that just sets them up for me automatically.
