It's not that it's that good, it's that it goes against the design of Silksong. It's the same shit as Mimic Tear: Mimic Tear is good not because it deals damage to the boss, but because it distracts it. Because the boss is distracted, you don't actually have to play the game properly. In short, FromSoft games are designed around identifying openings against an enemy and then exploiting them with the appropriate attack or counterattack. Summoning gives you free openings, it's that simple.
Silksong is similarly designed around identifying, creating, and exploiting openings, but with an emphasis on close-quarters combat. Ranged attacks either require you to generate silk with melee attacks or expend finite secondary weapons. Furthermore, you're discouraged from spamming your tools because they require bone shards to replenish, and you can very quickly run out if you're spamming them.
Poison is good because it gives you bang for your buck while allowing you to deal damage passively. When you combine it with tools that are already passive like cogflies and tacks, that's when you're really just circumventing the game's design instead of engaging with it. Other tools at least require some kind of spatial awareness and timing to use, but these two are broken and poison just exacerbates how broken they are.
Anyways, using whatever is fine.
