I play Call of Duty on occasion and I haven't seen a cheater since Black Ops 2. I would hardly call Call of Duty a dead esoteric online game, as you put it. I play a lot of Tekken too and I haven't seen a cheater since around when Leroy released in Tekken 7.
I will admit I don't play CS specifically, not since the CS:GO days anyways, but I especially don't see the issue in games with a votekick system. Just kick the cheater, you lose a round maybe but surely it's not the end of the world.

I enjoy ranked a lot. With friends or when I get a team that vibes well, it's genuinely some of the most fun I've had with video games. Not a team that's great at the game or a guaranteed win, to be clear, but just a team that is enjoyable to play with. I feel like it's a very low IQ perspective to believe that because a loud minority vents about their losses and how much they hate a game that nobody can be having fun with it. Doubly so if your main source is /v/.

I also don't understand why people assume that because someone isn't jumping for joy after a loss that they aren't having fun or enjoying the challenge. Most people aren't going to be smiling ear to ear and will likely bitch when they're locked in struggling to beat a tough boss in a single player game but you'd rightly get called retarded if you suggested they weren't enjoying themselves. The same behavior in a PvP game though and suddenly every armchair psychologist that despises PvP is there to say they're outright addicted and in complete misery.

it's insane to me that there's actually hundres of thousands of cheaters in this game, they have their special forums and discord groups, and they pay money to be able to cheat
some of these people pay A LOT for a lifetime service even, and i can never understand WHY
back when 1.6 was still the most popular shooter on PC i used to download cheats once and played for few hours with it, but it was mostly just to fuck with people, but i got bored quickly and never used them again, i don't see the appeal
