There's actually not that many interceptors right now, he could fight them

don't watch brood war often, why wouldn't valkyrie splash clear fighters faster?

There aren't that many carriers, but the key is that protoss managed to protect his expansions.
Usually protoss only loses if the initial terran push wipes out most expansions by the time P gets out enough carriers. Snow got this.

Valkyries are really hard to control and really only do good splash to stacked units, interceptors spread out really well, plus Valkyries are super low range and slow so they just sort of lose vs carriers

It would be probably super unreliable. Plus you would need a critical mass of valkys so they 1shot interceptors before they repair.
They are expensive and you might just die before you get critical mass without spamming goliaths.

Plus valkys used to be bugged out by too many units on the map and don't fire, and interceptors were almost guaranteed to bug them out. They should work on SC remaster, but they still carry the stigma of being useless against carriers. I wonder if progamers bothered experimenting with valky vs carrier.

Protoss always brings ground army with carriers in pro games. You need the goliaths to protect tanks from zealot/dragoon. If you go mass valkys, you get rekt on ground.
