I think it was in the wake of Diablo Immortal's success.
The devs took the piss out of people for calling the game shit, then it was a massive success for Blizzard regardless. This taught devs that they can make a shit product, insult the players of their games a ton before release, then make bank off it anyway so long as marketing is good and retards exist to buy it anyway.

This is normalized because gamers are some of the most brainless consumers on the market. Just look at /v/, everyone bitches and complains but look at their steam profile and they have been sucking the game's cock the whole time. I think it's unacceptable and wrong for developers to ignore their poorest players, and games should run on even the shittiest hardware.
