This flash step evade shit is gay zoomoid stuff that needs to end unless you're playing a superhuman character, but SH3 is my favorite of the series and I fucking hate fighting things in that game too. The fact is Silent Hill should not have competent combat, you're almost always a mentally unwell normalish person. Yeah like on the one hand I can't stand games like Outlast where the protagonist doesn't even consider defending themselves, they can only run like a prey animal. I'd say on the opposite end of that spectrum is RE6 where you're a DMC character in a zombie action movie. I kind of like how Forbidden Siren handles it. You can incapacitate an enemy, it's clumsy because you're a normal person fighting hellspawn, but they'll eventually get back up and try to kill you again.
