Back when everything had to be coded from scratch, the difficulty of making videogames created a barrier of entry where only the smartest most dedicated people could make it.

Now that the technology has been streamlined, any retard with an "idea" can make a game, and hence the market s flooded with garbage.

Back in the day every game had an engine built from scratch. Nowadays studios don't do that because there are too many people working on their games, and they outsource work as well. There are like 100+ people who need to be up to speed with the engine, so the only way to do that is to use a cookie cutter woke engine like Unreal. The end product is always bloated slop.

The fuck are you talking about? 90% of everything back in the day was RenderWare slop that ran at 20 frames per second like GTA 3 but no one was crying back then. The hit pieces on UE5 by Bulgarians that can't run games on their 15 year old GPUs is just annoying at this point.

Commercialism killed videogames. It has been slowly killing them for decades.
The only difference between 30 years ago and now is the media power big corporations have. You can be sure if Action 52 was released today by a major corpo, devs would've blamed the audience for not appreciating the team's hard work and being entitled and other suchness and you would have videogame bloggers and streamers giving their totally not paid opinion that the game is actually not that bad and you should buy it.

Unreal has been a staple engine since fucking Unreal Gold. Remember Splinter Cell? Unreal 2. Deus Ex? Unreal. Stop pretending like it's an engine problem when it's actually a person problem. Devs these days are lazy shitters that don't optimize. Also, your potato PC with a GTX 1070 isn't going to cut it anymore. Graphics have evolved, upgrade your hardware.
