Weak willed? I haven't played the remakes, but the guy got stabbed by Sephiroth in the gut and used the sword as a lever to throw Seph into a ravine.

I would argue Cloud's will to protect Tifa was all he ever had naturally. Maybe that and the ability to get his ass kicked and not die.

the exact opposite is true, there's multiple scenes where characters say something to the effect of wanting cloud to be there/putting up with his bullshit because despite being objectively insane for most of the game he gets shit done
