Clearly it's not irrelevant because it's the only reason you ended with such a surplus of rosaries instead of suffering their shortage like any normal player who despises farming in these games. No matter how much you kvetch over this.
In this regard, TC haven't pushed the envelope mechanically at all.
The consumable active abilities that Tools provide are step-down from Hollow Knight's library of charms, the Overcharm mechanic, and crosscharm interactions.
Further by making Tools usage dependent on a resource, players are disincentivized from experimenting with them. As a result, They swiftly become regarded as methods of dishing out extra damage during boss fights instead of being another way to approach combat in general.
The most charitable interpretation is that the way Silksong handles this is at best side-grade to Hollow Knight's approach.
But even then, that sort of design complacency isn't really acceptable.
People expected Silksong to take everything about Hollowknight and expand upon it, to push it further.

What is "we have to do our part to normalize this" if not social engineering? It's including something with the intent of altering the perceptions and ideas of the consumer. Hence, social engineering.
It doesn't have to be a laughing villain churning out propaganda posters to be social engineering. There are different degrees of it.

Of course not. There's never proof, but it's usually very obvious, because why else would a gay character be there? There's very rarely a thematic or mechanical purpose behind it.
Although since evaluating it requires speculation as to intent, it's not always completely clear. I'd argue that somebody innocently hoping to inspire is much less insipid than some danger hair on the team hand-writing about representation, and deeming the game problematic if it doesn't have X amount of it. But even the good-natured attempt to inspire is usually very hamfisted and conspicuous, because as I said above, deviating from the default has no thematic or narrative purpose. Well like it or not, that's how you design the game. Every single Castlevania since SotN knew how to spread out upgrades over the game, HK doesn't do that. HK also only rarely allowed you to skip ability checks via tech or make do with a different one like Silksong does.

They're cheap, you can farm up 500 geo to repair in minutes. Also, good luck dying to break them at all.
>bosses are as though as they need to be
No, they're not. When boss dies to you facetanking their damage and spamming attack, it's a badly designed boss. Bosses only started being enjoyable in DLCs. I mean, shit, even SotN bosses didn't allow you to just stand in place and take it. And that's before Inverted Castle.

Took me about 8hrs on my current blind playthrough. Last traversal upgrade I ended up finding was the acid travel. Shame I'm nowhere near getting 100% under 20hrs, since I'm at 75% at the 17hr mark, and still working on what I presume is the not-shit ending, just the game wants me to play Super Meat Boy in my current section.

I'd have less reservations with the game if it had a better map system (not enough tokens to mark the map with, plus some areas/npcs are not even shown since they're in unmarked locations), and more fast travel points for when you get stuck trying to figure out which area still has uncovered/secret rooms.

Obviously if enemies don't keep pace with upgrades a game will become too easy, but it feels crummy when you're only barely keeping up with enemy health increases. Sometimes that kind of thing makes having an upgrade system at all feel pointless, because they might as well just keep your damage and enemy health static. The player needs to FEEL the upgrade, see some actual benefit to it.

Enemies in formerly hard areas ARE supposed to become easy with upgrades. A metroidvania isn't supposed to maintain difficulty globally, just serve you more more difficult areas later.

SotN figured it out in the literal intro sequence. When your character is fully decked out, you're supposed to go through mid-tier enemies like a steamroller.

I suppose it's fairly mild in terms of actual difficulty, but it's more that it's easy to break if you get the right drops. As far as I'm concerned, that's better than never feeling like you get stronger at all, in a game about getting upgrades that are supposed to do that.

God, that must have been a nightmare. Max nail upgrade on its own is not enough to make endgame content bearable.
Which illustrates the problem with their approach I think. The developers set the destination, the maximally upgraded character, where most games would put the the starting or mid-point. Upgrades should make you feel strong, not just get you to the baseline - unless you're a good enough developer to make that work, and I really don't think they are. They didn't factor it into a grander design or atmosphere, they just set it that way because they were autistically fixated on the flawed idea that tanky enemies and bosses = difficulty.
And that was in Hollow Knight. It's gotten worse since then.

I'm back on /v/ after beating it. Am I too late to shitpost? Have we reached the stage of an indie game's lifespan where the mods delete every thread for not being about Nintendo?
As far as actual game discussion: Watcher at the Edge made me feel so stupid. I was having a really fucking tough time with him until I realized how late into that slam he actually begins the attack, which I was apparently too dumb to ever notice. I thought his blade was out from the top of the arc, but it only comes out right before he hits the ground. Once I caught on to that, he was a total pushover.
On the list of things in this game that made me feel stupid: there were so many times I would do a really tough challenge that was breaking my balls, finally complete it, then immediately find an upgrade or charm that would've made it sooooo much more bearable. If I ever replay on a fresh save, I'm getting the double jump BEFORE doing that fucking lava pit mob rush in Far Fields. Thank God I found the anti-maggot charm BEFORE fighting that fat fuck Groal. The "I could've used this!!!!" realization if I'd found it afterwards would've broken me
