>Literally the worst animated cutscenes ever conceived
>Button mashing combat that basically amount to spamming elemental shit all over the screen

The shota should have been a loli and it would have been a day one buy for me.

Japan continues trying to appeal to people outside their target demographic who have no interest in purchasing their games, and its going to kill them in the long run. JRPGs need loli characters, and I'm tired of this industry pretending that they don't. They are a genre staple.

It was just kinda half-baked. I needed a bunch of mods just for basic quality of life.
>mod to jump and dash in towns
>mod to teleport to save points from any continent
>mod to remove 30fps cap from cut scenes
>mod to stop characters from becoming invisible if the camera pans under them.
Also the progression was utterly fucked, like you have to ration having only two elemental spirits for the first third of the game because it feels like they arbitrarily delayed getting the fire spirit due to cutting Hina as playable.

The rpg elements get better as the game goes on, but I think having the fun custom class only unlock in the post-game was probably a mistake.
The story could also be a bit weak at parts. It really needed a character in the party who challenged the idea of their ritual sacrifice.

I'm not a fan of the series but I played the demo. The main issue was that there's simply not enough character designs that appeal to me. Combat was okay-ish but not enough to carry the game for me and make me want to buy it. I need loli characters, I generally don't play anime games that have male MCs. If you're going to have a cute and colorful anime aesthetic, in needs cute flat girls.

Almost no advertisement didn't help. There really isn't a mana fan base anymore because most of us starved to death after more than a decade of neglect. Also I think most people are turned off by the visuals. The 3d models look so much worse than the 2d designs. It's difficult to attract new people to a series if the game looks ugly. Also it's important to mention that the studio that made this closed the day before the game launched, so it was pretty clear that Square abandoned it completely. It didn't have a shot.

I thought the wolf summon for riding around was a bit cumbersome. What do you think about it? How do you transition into fights smoothly with them? I tried running into enemies but it just damages them a bit and they immediately recover.
Anonymous No.721092332
The game itself is perfectly serviceable but it feels almost like it was an alright remake of a game that didn't exist instead of a mid-budget new entry.
The enemies turning to crystals thing being integrated into both narrative and gameplay is cool, but it is a horrible RNG crapshoot in practice.
Not being able to see new side quests appear on the map without first leaving the area and coming back is horseshit on its own. And on top of that, the overabundance of them with no easy way to check other area maps without traveling to them is just plain bad design. This is especially egregious with any side quests that take place inside of buildings.
From what I remember, the RPG mechanics with class changes are really stiff in the character building department, preventing you from filling out the class trees in full through normal gameplay. Once you have a good class for a character unlocked it's best to just go all in on that class.
The elemental stuff like the water cannon are simultaneously imbalanced as all hell, and really clunky and momentum-killing in combat.
The dev studio shut down on the day the game released, so any support for the game also died.
I wanted more Hinna and the game killed her off because Val is retarded.

Honestly I enjoyed it much more than trials of mana. Trials is pretty shit after the first half of the game and made me wish I was just playing the original instead. Square sent them out to die, and in this game's case, it was handled in a way that it was probably not even expected to do much considering they literally sacked the dev team the day the game released like they were nothing but extremely temporary contractors for putting out a basic product. It's actually baffling how badly they've treated virtually every single thing that isn't Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, unless you're REALLY into the quiet Saga flourish these days.

He's right on everything else though. Trials of Mana was a better game and the characters had visual appeal unlike in Visions. They could have made a more successful, more fun, and significantly more cheap game if they had used the same framework and devs as the Trials of Mana remake.
Probably would have been fine to make it a lower spec game that could run on an outdated shitbox like the Switch too, since the graphics hardly helped Visions sell when most people tuned out the moment they saw the character designs.

Besides the main characters' designs Vision looks way better than Trials, exploring the maps is also more interesting as well.
Trials was a much more better remake than the Secret of Mana one but that's also because the original was a better game as well.

Square hasn't been able to make another RPG like Trials for 30 years now but Visions is still miles and miles better than anything released after it, including Dawn of Mana which has to be the worst game of the series.

Comes down to the same issue as like 99% of games these days.

It was mid. Being mid is considered the biggest sin in gaming, atleast if it's atrociously bad people talk about it. But mid games aren't offensive enough to warrant discussion so the game just immediately dies and no one even hears of it or forms an emotional attachment.

It's also partially why people here on this board and elsewhere on the internet magnify what are frankly minor issues is because they are trying to come up with something that keeps it out of that range and form some kind of emotional connection albeit negative.
