And then when she hits 60% health she gets hit for 9999 and dies instantly. It was definitely intended for players to accidentally kill her and reload so that Flowey could guilt trip them and bring the meta elements of the story right to the front early on. I missed all that since after accidentally killing her I just didn't reload. I knew these types of games don't let you get the true end on the first run, so Undyne and Flowey also got killed.

I didn't kill Papyrus though. He was pretty easy to not kill. Hell, you really have to go out of your way to kill him.

Yeah, playing blind I would have never guessed that was how you spare Undyne for example. The spare methods get pretty esoteric. So I just assumed they were mean to be killed while I was playing.

Sans only gets pissy on the first playthrough if you kill his brother and that's because Papyrus is literally the only character who can't kill you and spares you. You have to intentionally murder him while he's offering peace.
For the rest, Sans only judges you if you're on multiple playthroughs, because at that point you're no longer some kid trying to get back home and are instead a god with limited time warping powers.

The game teaches you that sparing doesn't do anything unless the enemy is yellow and during the fight talking gets you no where. So it was only logical to think maybe she'd be spareable once I get her HP low enough. How was I supposed to know I needed to spam spare 10 times when you just get ... for the first 8 times?

I played this game blind but I always use canon name and I knew the kids name was frisk so I used frisk I get to the end of the Ruins and the fight with Toriel and then the game suddenly locks me out and tells me I've been playing a hard mode demo that unlocks when you use the name frisk, that will never be completed.
And then I had to do the whole beginning of the game over again from the start. At least it was easier

It did end up fucking me later on in Asgore fight, and I proceeded to deliberately kill myself repeatedly, especially since some of his battle dialogue slightly changes every time you tell him you've already died by his hand.
