People don't know this but Age of Sigmar has one FANTASTIC storyline.
Something it does 100% better than Warhammer Fantasy:
that is the portrayal of the story of Necromancy - the saga of Nagash.
Don't get me wrong, the whole thing with Neferata and Khalida and Settra and Mannfred is already a fun dynamic in Warhammer Fantasy.
But in Age of Sigmar Nagash is bursting with character, he oozes personality, and he's tons of fun.
Plus unlike some weird new additions, he's deeply linked to his old Warhammer Fantasy history, it's a continuation of his story.
So what makes him so fun?
First of all he's part of the bickering pantheon of deities in Age of Sigmar while being a bit of a jobber, so he bickers with all the other Gods and Half-Gods: his interactions with Sigmar and Morathi are super fun. He makes a big magical scheme that reverses reality in 1/8th of the whole setting and his plan is thwarted by Skaven again, which is comedic in a good way.
...and then there's the Mortarchs.
I LOVE the Mortarchs.
He has this weird bat-family of minions and lieutenants that do his bidding and they're all supposed to be unthinking unflinching undead golems with no free will... but all of them are nasty, bitter fucks who hate their boss's guts.
There's Mannfred, there's Olynder, there's Ushoran, there's Katakros, they're a big unhappy bickering family of losers that can't die and will never die and you do get this idea that Death is a real "Grand Alliance" that is leagues bigger than it was in Warhammer Fantasy, and it is frankly the one "Grand Alliance" that makes sense and was explored and isn't a monolith.
They took the idea of "a skeleton" and they managed to squeeze four full armies with subfactions out of it, and they're all super fun.
