TroonSong exists because of it. spikes = instant death.

Is it worth playing classicvanias if I ever only played sotn and the gba and ds games?

Castlevania's difficulty comes from the NES jankiness

Yeah why wouldn't it be?

You should have started with classicvania, so why does it matter if you only played two igavanias?

Is Silksong actually difficult, or is it like the Souls games and have a completely undeserved reputation for being hard?

>>721098007
They have a completely different appeal, but they're generally good games.

>>721098061
There's nothing "janky" about Castlevania 1 or 3.

I doubt you had triple sub weapons when you first got there.

Both Silksong and Souls are incredibly difficult, especially compared to retroshit.

Souls has higher baseline difficulty but more tools/methods to cheese than Silksong and vice versa

Cv1 and Cv3 are both incredibly janky even by NES standards

You die in 3-4 hits to every boss but the health recovery thing recharges pretty quick
Nothing is really so aggressive that its hard to find windows to heal
Anonymous No.721099219
>>721098879
constantly respawning enemies are kind of neat in their own way, you start looking at enemies like wave patterns occupying space rather than individual enemies to defeat.

Silksong is not hard
-You have infinite healing as long as you can keep damaging enemies. You also have accessories that help with this too.
-You have an attack with infinite range that does the same damage as your normal attack, though you can only use it 15 times.
-If you die, you can get back to the boss in seconds and fly over/run past all the enemies.
-You have infinite lives & continues. The rest areas fully restore your HP.

When I watch other people get filtered by Silksong, it's because they rush right into the boss and start spamming attacks without trying to learn the patterns. The only tricky part is the pogo platforming. But IIRC most of those areas are completely optional.

Almost all of these old console games are basically just doing some bullshit to totally trivialize the game. Once childhood naivety is gone they start losing their appeal. You gotta look elsewhere for a challenge.
Anonymous No.721100639
>>721098879
That isn’t jank though, because they are conscious decisions to the gameplay. True “jank” would be hardcoded limitations that prevent fluid movement. The NES was clearly capable of having jump corrections and no knockback, as evident from the fucking Mario Bros.

Castlevania 1 is absolutely not harder than silksong.
Fucking dracula is a cruel design trick though, making you use the cross phase one since the holy water doesn't hurt him, only to reveal that actually you should have picked the holy water retard since phase 2 is brutal without it which in turn forces you to learn phase 1 all over again

Souls is easy as shit because despite being "hard", it's trivial to cheese the game. The only hard modern Fromsoft game is Sekiro since you actually need to git gud to beat it I never played AC6 it looks like shit.
Anonymous No.721102501 >>721102889
Unc here. We didn't have speedrunner trannies telling us to stunlock the boss with holy water.
You couldn't even look up a playthrough on youtube to see how someone else did it. You were basically on your own and perhaps had a blurb of text in nintendo power to help you.

When kids talk about retro games, it's very obvious that they don't actually understand how things were back then. These games were hard, and on purpose too. But we had strategy guides with all kinds of secrets, and we also had cheat codes. There was no "you didn't actually beat the game!" bs back then, knowing cool cheats was actually a sign of professionalism.

Fuck off retard. No one should play like this and you sure as hell shouldn't rate the difficulty based on using the most braindead cheese strats from online guides.

Fucking retard. You need a dash because Silksong has extremely fast, aggressive enemies with very dense patterns, otherwise most damage is literally unavoidable. Cv1 is practically geriatric in comparison, extremely slow-pace with bosses and enemies that die very quickly and deal low damage

People are crying about silksong runbacks and lack of benches. There are no benches in castlevania and as a runback, you need to start the entire game from the beginning

What Castlevania games left are worth playing? I've only beaten RoB, SotN, 64, LoD, CotM, HoD, and AoS

Strangely I'd rank those games in release order.

Anonymous No.721109204
Comparing 90s platformers to games today is dumb. Nowadays, games are meant to be beaten. Back then, games were meant to be played. Just like sports or board games. You don't win a game of draughts and declare "I beat the game, I may now throw it away". When you play basketball with friends and they win, you do not bitch that game has bad design. You just played the game for an hour and you had fun no matter if you beat the game or you kept dying to the first boss.
